I am installing a 2-wire Dimmer, when should I be using a 31CAP or 31LCDA?

Hide Show

The 31CAP and 31LCDA both have separate uses to resolve issues experienced with 2-wire Dimmers.

The 31CAP should be used when minimum load of the device is not being met, this is usually indicated by the load/light, that is controlled by the dimmer, by glowing when it should be off. Adding the 31CAP will increase the load and prevent the load/light from glowing in the off state. Depending on how far off minimum load you are more than one 31CAP may be required.

The 31LCDA should be used in instances where the load/light is flickering constantly, which indicates an issue with compatibility with the 2-wire dimmer used. The 31LCDA resolves these incompatibilities and flickering should then stop, if the flickering is reduced but still present you may need another 31LCDA to completely resolve. No more than 3x 31LCDA’s should be used on one dimmer.

Why does my 41E300PBUD2SM (Dimmer) leave my light glowing when the dimmer is off?

Hide Show
If the load connected to the 41E300PBUD2SM is glowing when the dimmer is showing that it is switched off this usually indicates that the minimum load has not been met.
You can then connect a 31CAP to increase the loading.

How do you distribute MAXBAR from the main row to other rows, keeping the system more professional?

Hide Show
MAXBAR with neutral terminal block can be used to distribute active and neutral in the row with main switch. Use the connectors provided with MAXBAR to take active and neutral feed from the row with main switch to take the feed to other rows. You can follow the same process for other rows in switchboard.

MAXBAR Kit Definition

What is MAXBAR?

Hide Show
MAXBAR is a top feeding comb busbar able to feed Line & Neutral from the Main incoming Switch or MCB and neutral terminal directly to all type of Clipsal RCBOs and AFDDs.

There are Comb busbar for 1P+N and 3P+N applications. There is one variant with neutral terminal block for rows with Main Switch  and another variant for rows without Main switch.

How can MAXBAR help me to save time during switchboard installation ?

Hide Show
MAXBAR removes the need for cutting stripping, twisting and managing cables for feeding RCBO & AFDD on typical installation. This helps to achieve installation speed of up to 15x faster with MAXBAR compared to traditional wiring.

What is the difference between the 31Cap and 31LCDA?

Hide Show
The 31CAP is a load correction device which consists of a "Capacitor only" to help 2 wire products achieve minimum load levels. The 31LCDA has circuitry built in to the device to enable it to correct minor compatibility issues found between dimmers and LED lights for example slight flickering when dimmed at a higher level.

31CAP - Increases minimum load.

31LCDA - Assists with compatibility issues.

How is an Altivar VFD set to always run a particular speed when no reference input is connected?

Hide Show
Issue:
Wants the Altivar VFD set to always run at a particular speed when no reference input is connected.

Product Line:
Altivar 12, 32, 312, 61, 71, 212, 320

Environment:
All models

Cause:
VFD does not run the motor without a speed reference.

Resolution:
If there is no external speed reference when the VFD gets a run command, then it will always run at the minimum speed programmed to the VFD.  Set the minimum speed parameter to the desired run speed.  Use parameter LSP for the Altivar12, 32, 312, 320, 61, 71 drives.  Use parameter LL for the Altivar 212 drive.  These can be adjusted while the motor is running.

What is a possible cause of OSF fault on the ATV31 or ATV312 drive?

Hide Show
Issue:
What is a possible cause of OSF fault?

Product Line:
Altivar 312 , ATV312

Environment:
All

Cause:
Line voltage is too high
Problem with the line supply
Voltage spike on line side affecting DC bus voltage
Switching power factor correction capacitors by the facility or by the utility company

Resolution:
OSF is a  mains overvoltage fault (DC bus voltage too high).  OSF is displayed if the drive is not in a run state when overvoltage is detected.  If the drive is in a run state, and an overvoltage occurs, the drive will display ObF (over bus fault).  When the drive is running, it is possible for the motor to regenerate voltage back into the drive.

If this causes the DC bus voltage to go too high, the drive will trip on ObF.  One possible cause for ObF to occur is a decel time that the drive is not able to meet because of excessive inertia from the motor load.  See FAQ on ObF for resolutions.
  • Check the line voltage at L1, L2, L3 on the drive terminals
  • Compare the line voltage reading with the ULn display ( SUP menu)
  • Measure the DC Bus voltage
  • Monitor line power for voltage spikes
