                              • What is RoHs?
                                RoHs is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic PRODUCTS.                                 Since the part number is the same for both RoHs and non-RoHs NIMs, a RoHs compliant Ethernet NIM is identified by modules laser marked with an SV at v2.70 or higher.                               • The RoHS STBNIP2212 would fail to boot after a power cycle when connected to an XBTGT Schneider Magelis via serial port.
                              • Under certain conditions, the STB Island would go to fallback if a swap over occurred on a Hot Standby system that was communicating to the STB Island. The issue was the STBNIP2212 would not accept new connections on a Hot Standby swap over.

                              STBNIP2212 Loses Modbus Communications Under a Specific Condition

                              The purpose of this resolution is to inform users of STB Ethernet NIM's (Modbus TCP and Ethernet/IP) of a communication issue that may occur under a specific condition.

                              Goals and Symptoms

                              If an STBNIP2212 was powered on for 828 consecutive days, it would lose Modbus communications for 20 minutes, recover on its own and will not fault again with this behavior for another 828 days.

                              Causes and Fixes

                              CauseThe 828 consecutive days powered on relates to an internal clock value in the STBNIP2212. When this specific clock value is reached, an issue occurs with the ARP cache creating a 20 minute Modbus TCP communication loss. After this 20 minute period, the communications will recover on its own. ICMP service may or may not be immediately affected by this event but will recover at the same time as Modbus TCP communications.

                              How to Manage the Issue with Existing Firmware
                              If at any time, the NIP is power cycled, its clock count value resets to zero and starts a new 828 day operating period. This can be done during any scheduled maintenance period within the 828 day time frame to avoid this event.

                              Solution
                              New firmware for each of the 3 affected PRODUCTS will be posted to resolve this issue but a schedule for availability was not confirmed at the time of this posting.

                              Release of 170ENT11001 RoHs Version Ethernet Communication Adapter

                              The purpose of this resolution is to announce that a new RoHs version 170ENT11001 was released in September 2009.

                              What is RoHs?
                              RoHs is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic PRODUCTS. The substances banned under RoHS are lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (CrVI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

                              • Identifying a RoHs version 170ENT11001
                                Since the part number is the same for both a RoHs and non-RoHs communication adapter, a RoHs compliant 170ENT11001 is identified by adapters laser marked with an SV at v1.10 or higher. Non-Rohs versions will always have an Exec version less than 1.10. There are no other physical differences between the two adapters.

                                One other method to determine a RoHs and non-RoHs version is through the communication adapters web pages. Once logged in, select Momentum I/O Configuration and Diagnostics, then select Momentum I/O Properties. If it is a RoHs version, the Adapter Part Number will display: 170ENT11001 (RoHS). A non-RoHs version will only display the part number: 170ENT11001.
                              • Replacing a non-RoHs 170ENT11001 with a RoHs 170ENT11001
                                The new RoHs version 170ENT11001 is a direct replacement for the non-RoHs version. There are no functional differences between RoHs and non-Rohs 170ENT11001's.
                              • Execs
                                The minimum version Exec for the RoHs 170ENT11001 is v1.10. This Exec is NOT for use in the non-RoHs ENT11001's.
                                Future Exec updates for the RoHs ENT11001 will be any version greater than 1.10.
                                Any non-RoHs Exec versions released in the future will always be less than 1.10.

                                The following fixes and enhancements were made to Exec. version 1.10:
                                1. The default gateway address on the ENT V2 when read by SNMP was incorrect.
                                2. The 170ANR12091 was not recognized or properly displayed on the 170ENT11001's web pages.
                                3. New option added to the web page to disable Bootp/DHCP functionality.
                              • Performance
                                RoHs version communication adapters use a Cirrus Logic processor instead of a NET50 processor that is used in the non-RoHs. The faster Cirrus results in improved performance over the Net50.
