What does a -1603 error indicate in Concept?

This error usually occurs when trying to go online to a PLC and is usually caused by one of the following:
1/ Expansion Size in Peer Cop needs to be decreased. This must be done offline.
2/ If it is a Hot Standby system, either no CHS or HSBY loadable configured or heap size is too large.
3/ Memory partitions maybe incorrect or may be illegal for controller type.

Goals and Symptoms

A customer will connect several motors in parallel for conveyor application, and they will be driven by a ATV68C23N4. However, the total motors' rating current is less than ATV68C23N4's current. How to setup the motor data in Menu B3 for this case? Is there any particular parameter setting need to be configured for this motor parallel case?

Causes and Fixes

For this application there is some restrictions :

- need to have same motors
- same cabe lenght for each motor

However, for the B3 menu :
B3.00 = global power ( sum of motors )
B3.01 = global current
B3.02 = nominal voltage
B3.03 = nominal frequency
B3.04 = nominal speed
B3.05 = nominal network voltage

And make a tune only if you have exactly same motors.

The entire product line of WPM-311 type controllers from Berger Lahr are obsolete and no longer available
Schneider Electric does not offer a drop in replacement.

The Berger Lahr WPM311 uses a special programming environment which was unique to Berger Lahr ( Depending on the firmware, Bpro3 programming system or ProOed3 Programming system )

The WPM311 is a 4 axis motion controller that utilizes pulse/direction type outputs which were most commonly used to interface with stepping motor drives.

So to replace the WPM311 you will have to not only find a controller that is capable of controlling multiple axis, but you will also have to write a motion program that duplicates the current application process.

You may try contacting the OEM machine builder, they may have spare WPM311 controllers or they may have already developed a retrofit solution.

What is the new Smart-UPS C series?


The Smart-UPS  C series is our new entry level Smart-UPS product designed for Entry-level Servers and Small Office / Home Office applications. They output a pure sinewave, are fully compatible with PFC power supplies, and feature a new LCD Interface. Identifiable by the prefix ""SMC"" in the part number, they are available as dedicated Tower or Rack-Mount models in 1000 VA and 1500 VA capacities.

 


What are the new SMC model numbers?

What software is compatible with the SMC Smart-UPS?


The SMC Smart-UPS only supports Powerchute Business Edition. SMC products do not have a Smart-Slot and cannot support a Network Management Card or Powerchute Network Shutdown.

 


What communications ports are available?


SMC units have both a USB port and a RJ-45 style Serial port, only a USB cable is included with the product.  A serial cable is an option that can be purchased separately, AP940-0625a

 

Is the LCD display the same as I have seen on SMT and SMX Smart-UPS products?

No, the SMC LCD display is a simplified interface that offers graphic and LED statuses, with a display button that provides detail ratings on the power and load attached to the UPS.  

 

Do the SMC units have switchable outlet groups?


No they do not.

What mounting hardware do the rackmount versions ship with?


SMC rack mount units ship with a rack mount brackets that are compatible with both 2 and 4 post racks.  It can be used with either square hole or threaded hole racks without modification. Users that desire more stability with a 4 post rack can purchase a 4 post rack mount rail kit,  part number SU032A separately. 

 

How efficient are the new SMC models?


SMC models feature a high efficiency ""green"" mode  that achieves efficiencies of up to 98%.

How do I change the sensitivity setting from the LCD interface?


- Turn UPS off
- Press and hold the Power Button for 6 seconds
- Sensitivity setting will display (Default setting is high)
- Press the menu button to toggle through settings
- After 4 seconds of no activity the unit will exit this mode and setting will take effect
  (Note: You do not need to turn output power off if adjusting sensitivity via software)

 


How do I turn off the LCD display?


To activate LCD Power Saving Mode:
- Press and hold Display button for 2  seconds
- UPS will Beep to confirm Power Saving Mode is active
- LCD will now go dark after 60 seconds of no activity
- LCD will light when an event occurs or a button is pressed
- Repeat to deactivate

 


How do I initiate a Self-Test?


- Press and hold the MUTE button, then press the DISPLAY button for 2 seconds
- Unit will emit a short beep and Self-Test will start
- When the Self-Test completes the UPS will return to on-line operation
The self-test can also be initiated via the software.

There are no plans for a general release of the EasyPact MVS circuit breaker line in the US.
 

PowerChute Network Shutdown lost communications or cannot establish communication with UPS.

Issue:
PowerChute Network Shutdown lost communications or cannot establish communication with UPS.

Product Line:
PowerChute Network Shutdown (PCNS) all versions

Environment:
All supported operating systems

Cause:
There can many reasons. Network traffic is blocked, mismatch authentication phrase or password etc.
See list of resolution for complete list of causes.

Resolution:

1. Verify the version of PCNS that is running The most current version of PowerChute Network Shutdown can be downloaded from https://www.apc.com/products/family/index.cfm?id=127

2. Confirm the type of Network Management Card being used along with the firmware type on the card. The Network Management Cards that are designed to work with PCNS are part numbers AP9617, AP9618, AP9619, AP9630, AP9631, AP9635, AP9640, AP9641. The AP9640, and AP9641 are only compatible with PCNS 4.3 and above. The AP9606 is not compatible with PCNS 3.0 and above. It is compatible with PCNS 2.2.X and below. The AP9605 and the AP9603 are older cards and will not work with PCNS.

3: Check the network settings on the server running PCNS. Incorrect subnet mask or default gateway settings will cause communications issues although PCNS can register with the card successfully during installation. For Unix server,use the command "#ifconfig -a" to display the network settings. You may also need to verify network settings in file /etc/networks if the server is running Solaris.

4: Verify multiple PCNS install daemons are not running on the server. In this case, the PCNS client can't register with the network management card during installation. For Unix server, use the command "#ps -ef |grep java" to display java related daemon. Since PCNS is java based, all PCNS install daemons will be displayed in the list. Make sure that there is only one install daemon running. Note: PCNS 3.X and above can only run 1 instance of PCNS and registration now occurs post installation via the Config Wizard.

5. Verify that the PCNS service is started. If it is already started, try stopping the service and then restarting it again. Instructions for starting and stopping the PCNS service can be found in the Installation guide.

6. Check the Network Management Card to see if the IP address of the PCNS client is listed under the PowerChute menu. If it is not, either add the PCNS client IP Address manually to the list, or make sure that the Network Management Card and the PCNS client are on the same segment.

7. PowerChute Network Shutdown client that acquires its IP address through DHCP will lose communications with the Network Management Card when the client renews its DHCP address lease and acquires a different IP address. To resolve the issue,
each system using PowerChute Network Shutdown must have a permanent IP address. Reserve IP addresses in DHCP server by using the MAC address of the clients, so that they never change for the specified machines. The NMC should also have a static IP address.

8. If the system is on a different network segment is the system registered with the NMC? If not add the IP Address to the list or verify that another system on that segment is registered with the NMC and UDP packet forwarding is allowed on that segment? (See Application note #101 PowerChute Network Shutdown with more than 50 computer connected to one UPS)

9. Verify the Authentication Phrase on the Network Management Card has not been changed from the default (the default phrase is admin user phrase). If  it is not the default phrase reset the card to default except TCP/IP. This option can be found under the System>Tools menu on the Network Management Card for AP9617, AP9618, AP9619. To reset a AP9630, AP9631, AP9635, AP9537SUM that is running firmware 6.X go to Control - Network Reset / Reboot - Reset All and click Exclude TCP/IP. Resetting to defaults will reset any configurations changes that the customer has made.

10. Verify that the proper user name and password for the Network Management Card are being used and that the user name is 10 characters or less for PCNS to register properly with the NMC.

11. Verify that there is a network connection between the PCNS client computer and the Network Management Card. Try accessing the Network Management Card from the PCNS client computer or try using the ping utility from the Network Management Card.

12. Verify that ports 3052 and port 80 are open on their router or server. These two ports must be open for bi-directional communication. If the router, firewall, or anti-virus software is blocking these ports, communication will be lost. If the ports are open, make sure that there are no other devices that could be using these ports. For Windows OS see FA282540 for help opening Windows firewall.

13. Check that the IP address of the Network Management Card has not changed after PCNS was registered with the NMC. To check this, click on the Set Up Communications menu item in PCNS and check that the IP address shown in the Network Management Card section is correct.

14. If the AP9630, AP9631, AP9635, AP9537SUM is running firmware 6.8.X or the NMC is a AP9640, AP9641 verify that HTTP and or HTTPS has been enable. To enable HTTP and or HTTPS open the NMC web interface and go to Configuration - Network - Web - Access. Also, verify that HTTP and or HTTPS protocol has been enable for PowerChute. To verify HTTP and or HTTPS protocol has been enable for PowerChute open the NMC web interface and go to Configuration - Shutdown. You will find the PowerChute Communication Protocol at the bottom of the page.
