      Cause:
      The average life span of a battery module is 3-5 years depending on environment and usage. For best performance the ambient temperature should be 68-77 degrees Fahrenheit. Replacing battery modules is a quick and easy process and can be performed without turning off the UPS. Please note that while you do not have to power down the UPS, you will not have any battery back up protection for the short period when no batteries are installed in the UPS.

      Resolution:
      All SURT and SRT units 3kva or larger use the APCRBC140 RBC Kit (This RBC kit replaced the older RBC44. APCRBC140 can be used in SRT or SURT unit, RBC44 only work in SURT)
      One APCRBC140 includes two battery modules
      3kva-6kva units use ONE APCRBC140 kit (Two Modules)
      8kva-10kva units use TWO APCRBC140 kits (Four Modules)

      To replace your batteries:
      • Remove the plastic bezel from the front of the UPS by pulling it off straight towards you
      • Remove the screws that hold the protective metal battery bay covers in place.
        • On 3-6kva units - Slide the cover to the left, then open like a door
        • On 8-10kva units - The bay covers come  off of the unit entirely
      • Disconnect the battery connectors by pulling straight out towards you
      • Slide the modules out of the UPS one by one. Be careful - They're heavy
      • Once all modules are removed, repeat these steps in reverse order to install new batteries
      • When the new batteries are installed, run a self test to clear any "Replace Battery" alarms

      Issue:
      Why does the Camera POD 160A appear to not work with the NetBotz appliance it is connected to?

      Cause:
      Newer NetBotz Camera Pods (NBPD0160A) are running a hardware revision that are not compatible with older NetBotz firmware. This causes the camera to appear failed and not register on the main NetBotz unit. 

      Resolution:

      Updating the NetBotz appliance to firmware version 4.6.2 or later will correct the problem.  If you have upgraded or are already running 4.6.2 or later and are still experiencing difficulties, contact technical support.
      Please note that this could also happen on a NetBotz 355A or 455A with the on-board camera with firmware prior to 4.6.2..

      Current shunt is rated too low, and/or seems to be getting too hot while inverting or charging.  

      Resolution
      Below is a table from the Battery Monitor Owner's Guide recommending Deltec shunts for various capacities.  

      The shunt that comes with the Battery Monitor is rated for 350A continuously and 500A for up to 5 minutes.  Always use shunts that are scaled to 50 mV or 60 mV at rated current. Check with the manufacturer's data sheet to select the shunt rating. Select a shunt with an overcurrent margin of 25% over its rated current capacity, as matched to the continuous peak current expected on the system.

      The 60R32-** and 60R32COOK-** will only fit into the extra switch position on the 4025XA-**

      For a standard plate with a 32A mech you will need to use a 403* plate with a 30 series 35A mech, 30M35

      Is there a 35A mechanism (Mech) for Saturn series?

      The part number is 60R32 which is available in Artic Silver (colour code 3A - which suits the standard Saturn range), Charcoal (CC - for the Saturn Horizon range), Zen Black (ZB - for the Saturn Zen range) and Zen White (ZW - for the Saturn Zen range). This part is rated 32A suitable for the 4025XUA (standard Saturn) or Z4025XUA (Saturn Zen) which is a standard double GPO with an extra removable switch

      This event may be caused by a blown charger fuse, or bad batteries.
       
      Resolution:
      To determine the cause of this behavior, perform the following troubleshooting steps:
      • With the UPS input connected to AC mains, disconnect all the batteries in the system: all internal batteries and any external batteries, if used.
      • Go to the Status section on the display and under Battery, check Voltage.
      Note: You do not need to perform measurements on the UPS battery terminals.
      • If the voltage displayed on the UPS display is below the “Voltage level” (refer to the below values), the charger fuse is blown and the UPS requires replacement.
      • If the voltage displayed on the UPS display is at, or above, the “Voltage level, the batteries need to be replaced.

      The below  schematic works for M400 & M800 actuators.  The system needs a 30VA transformer for the new actuator.  The actuator dipswitches need to be adjusted for Floating [24v open & 24v close] dipswitches 1 & 2 on and the rest off. 

      Manual Operation
      There is a red manual operation handle on the actuator, see figure 2.  When it is lowered, the motor stops. Then the actuator can be operated manually if the handle is turned.

      - When to implement surge suppressors :

      If the LED is exposed to high voltage, short term spikes such as those created when large coils are de-energised ( solenoids, large contactor etc.) then damage may occur to the circuitry, causing a premature failure of the device. This damage can also occur where the inrush to the coil is high.

      The catalogue characteristics state that where the pilot light is fitted directly in parallel across an inductive coil, the inrush of the coil must not exceed 30VA. Remember that the inrush of the coil is usually very high compared to the nominal power consumption.
      If this value of 30VA is exceeded, then a suppressor block must be used in conjunction with the pilot light. It is also advisable to fit suppression across the inductive load to reduce the back emf produced.


      - How to implement surge suppressors :
      Connect the suppressor in parallel with the LED block.


      - Which surge suppressors to implement :
      ZBVJ* and ZBVB* => mostly used on 12Vdc or 24Vdc, the inductive loads are generaly low. However it is recommended to implement a freewheel diode. You can use the ZBZG156 which includes a diode.
      ZBVG* (110...120Vac) => Use ZBZVG (maximum power of coil 120VA).
      ZBVBG* (24...120V ac/dc) and ZBVM* (230Vac) => Use ZBZVM (maximum power of coil 230VA).


      For coils with a power above the suppressors limitation, use a dedicated suppressors on the coil itself:
      Freewheel diodes for DC applications.
      Bidirectionnal diodes or varistors for AC applications.

      Issue:

      Why is my Back-UPS ES giving a Constant tone with the Power on LED flashing?

      Cause:

      If this is a new installation confirm that the internal battery was connected properly.

      Refer to the user manual for instructions on this procedure.

      The Back-UPS ES performs an internal self-test every 14 days, the internal self-test checks the integrity of the battery. If the battery fails the self-test, the Power on LED will flash and the unit will emit a constant tone. This is a WARNING that the battery may be near the end of its life, replacement is typically recommended within 2-4 weeks.


      Resolution:

      Step 1:

      Verify that the UPS is not being overloaded:

      - The Back-UPS ES 350 can support 350VA or 200Watts on the battery powered outlets.

      - The Back-UPS ES 450 can support 450VA or 257Watts on the battery powered outlets.

      - The Back-UPS ES 550 can support 550VA or 330Watts on the battery powered outlets.

      - The Back-UPS ES 650 can support 650VA or 390Watts on the battery powered outlets.

      - The Back-UPS ES 750 can support 750VA or 450Watts on the battery powered outlets.


       

      APC recommends plugging only the computer and monitor in the battery powered outlets, other peripherals should be plugged into the ""Surge Only"" outlets on the labeled on the the UPS. Outlet strips or surge protectors should NEVER be plugged into any UPS. Remove any excessive load from the UPS. On the same note if the Back-UPS ES is close to being fully loaded (>80% of the battery outlet’s watt capacity) it is not recommended that the Back-UPS ES be used as a master on/off switch to turn on your equipment. Instead power the Back-UPS ES on, letting it complete its self-test before turning on the connected equipment.



      Step 2:

      A self test should be performed with the UPS fully charged (charging without interruption or transfer to battery for 5 hours) and normal load attached. To do this, power down all equipment attached to the battery outlets. Then reboot the Back-UPS ES by turning it off then count to 5 and power it back on. If the constant tone clears, then it was a false onbattery condition and the unit has been reset. It now is ready to be used again. Proceed to step 3 if it does not clear.


      Step 3: (proceed only if "step 2" does not clear the Replace Battery Condition)

      The Back-UPS ES comes with a 3 year warranty which includes the internal battery. If the Back-UPS ES was purchased within 3 years, please contact APC Support and reference the steps performed in this document. Also include the exact part number and serial number found on the bottom of the Back-UPS ES.

      The vendor specification for RING detection use the frequency range from 15Hz to 68Hz and a DC offset of 35V and above with up to 100V RMS RING. This range covers 99.99% of all real world ring scenarios and there are no approval agencies that we are aware of that are outside of that range. Normal ring offset is usually 37V to 48V DC with a ring voltage less than 100V RMS.

      We have tested 15V RMS and have been able to detect RING, but the test equipment was generating a perfect 20 Hz sine wave for TIP and RING and they are opposite of each other. Not every provided TIP/RING signal will be perfect (or even a sine wave) so that would change the actual RING detect voltage. Firmware version 1.02u was tested at 14 Hz and tested to 20 V and 68 Hz tested to 19 V.
