What is one way to tell if a drive is still under warranty?

Issue:
Warranty verification

Product Line:
Altivar variable frequency drives

Environment:
Open style

Cause:
None

Resolution:
The date of purchase indicated on the distributors invoice or receipt can be used to determine if the drive is in warranty.   The standard warranty is 18 months (see FAQ FA117023) .  If no receipt or invoice is available the date code of the drive can be used to determine if the drive is in warranty.  This date code is imbedded into the number that is located on the right side label of the drive below the bar code.  The first 2 digits indicate the manufacturing plant.  The next two digits indicate the last two numbers of the year it was manufactured and the next two digits indicate the week of that year.  The following numbers indicate the sequence of drive.
 example:  8B 092124041 (8B = manufacturing location, 09 = year 2009, 21 = week).  The warranty ends November of 2010 (18 months from May 2009).

2007 Daylight Savings Time Compliance for NetBotz Branded Products

Product Line:

NetBotz

Environment:

Any version

Cause:

January 25, 2007

Daylight Savings Time Overview (1) Daylight Saving Time (DST) is a system of handling the changing amounts of daylight throughout the year. The goal of DST is to maximize the daylight hours available during typical waking hours.

The United States has planned a change to its DST observance beginning in 2007. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandates that DST will start on the second Sunday in March and end on the first Sunday in November. In 2007, the start and stop dates will be March 11 and November 4, respectively. These dates are different from previous DST start and stop dates. In 2006, the dates were the first Sunday in April (April 2, 2006) and the last Sunday in October (October 29, 2006).

Some countries are still evaluating whether they will adopt the new rules for themselves. You should anticipate more changes in DST and time zone rules for countries that typically align with U.S. DST rules.

Resolution:

Changes to NetBotz Products
APC will be releasing two firmware releases coming by the end of February 2007; one for the V1 NetBotz appliances and one for the V2 NetBotz appliances to address the DST issue.

BotzWare for Version 1 Appliances:
Version 1.3.10 of the NetBotz Advanced View and NetBotz Firmware for Version 1 Appliances (Models 300, 300B, 310, 400) is being updated to handle the DST changes. This update incorporated changes in the firmware for the appliances as well as a patched JRE (Java Runtime Environment) for the Advanced View.

BotzWare for Version 2 Appliances:
Version 2.6.1 of the NetBotz Advanced View and NetBotz Firmware for Version 2 Appliances (Models 320, 420, 500) is being updated to handle the DST changes. The only change for the DST issue is a patched JRE for the Advanced View. However there are additional updates/fixes in BotzWare 2.6.1 that will be released as well.

Netbotz Central / ISX Central:
Version 2.5x of Netbotz Central will be updated to a version 2.5.2 for both the Central server as well as it's Console software. ISX Central 3.X does not have an issue with the change in DST

Can leakage voltage affect 7550/7650 digital inputs?

Goals and Symptoms

In certain cases a device that is connected and triggering the digital inputs on an ION7650 or ION7550 can have a leakage voltage. A leakage voltage is occurs when a device produces a certain amount of voltage across its terminal when it is open (ideally the value should be 0 volts).
In the case of a device triggering a digital input: when the device closes the circuit the digital input registers a trigger, and when the same device opens the circuit the digital input should not be registering a trigger.

But in the case of a voltage leakage (when the triggering device is open) some testing is required to determine the results.

Facts and Changes

Keywords:
input doesn't open
leakage voltage
ION7650
ION7550
switch
digital input
closed
swap
change state

Causes and Fixes

The internal resistance between the Scom and S8 or S7 in the diagram below is 230K, while on the old 7550/7650 (before September 2009) meters it was 40K.

The minimum amount of current required for the meter at the digital inputs to register a pulse is 50 micro A.

Hence with this information, figure out if a leakage voltage across the digital input connection is enough to produce a 50 micro ampere current. If the leakage produces a 50 micro ampere current or more work out the circuit to reduce the current.

Why are the logic rungs of a Micro1 PLC not displayed in 8010SFW30 program?

If the program was originally written with the 8003 PR3 hand held programmer and the author didn't follow the rules for the SFW30 software, the rungs will not be displayed on the computer screen. A program with this problem can be uploaded and down-loaded. The program can print the ladder logic for rungs that follow the rules, all other rungs will be printed in Boolean format.

Note: The Micro1 PLC was obsoleted in 2009 and the recommended PLC replacement would be the M221.

What is the standard of PoE (Power over Ethernet) adopted on EGX devices?

Product Line
EGX100
EGX300

Resolution
The Power over Ethernet (PoE), IEEE802.3af, is deployed on the EGX100 and EGX300 devices.

The IEEE 802.3af PoE standard (ratified June, 2003) provides up to 15.4 W of DC power at 44~57 V DC (though the nominal voltage is 48 V) and 10~350 mA to each device.
Only 12.95 W is assured to be available at the powered device as some power is dissipated in the cable.

There is another new version for PoE, IEEE802.3at-2009, sometimes called "POE+", (ratified September 11, 2009), provides up to 25 W of power. Except the Power Output, the voltage and current output are the same as IEE 802.3af. As of 7/1/2015 the EGX only supports IEEE802.3af.

How do I get Modsoft to open up to full screen display while I try to run it under WIN 2000?

The command to get Modsoft to change window size is ALT+<ENTER>; however Modsoft is not supported under WIN 2000. Users may try running the application under it; however successful operation cannot be guaranteed. One of the common problems is Modsoft will not open up to full screen. Regrettably there is no means to resolve this issue other than to reinstall the software under a supported OS, such as WIN 95, WIN 98 or DOS.

After a graceful shutdown by PowerChute, Windows 2003, 2008, or 2012 system fails to turn on when utility power is restored.

Issue:
After a graceful shutdown by PowerChute,  Windows 2003, 2008, or 2012 system fails to turn on when utility power is restored.

Product:
PowerChute Network Shutdown
PowerChute Business Edition

Environment:
Windows 2003, 2008, 2012

Cause:
After a graceful shutdown by PowerChute Network Shutdown or PowerChute Business Edition, the server fails to turn on when utility power is restored. Due to changes in the power management feature in Microsoft® Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, some servers with an ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) BIOS will not turn on when utility power is restored after an outage. The following is an example of what may occur:

1. A server is attached to an APC UPS and running PowerChute Network Shutdown or PowerChute Business Edition. PowerChute Network Shutdown or PowerChute Business Edition is configured to shut down the operating system when the UPS has been on battery for a specific time.

2. When the utility power fails, causing the on-battery event, PowerChute Network Shutdown or PowerChute Business Edition commands the operating system to shut down gracefully.

3. Because ACPI power management is controlled by the operating system rather than by the BIOS, when the operating system completes its graceful shutdown, it commands the server to turn off.

4. The UPS remains on battery until its shutdown delay time has expired. When utility power is restored, the UPS provides power; the server does not turn on.

Solution:

Upgrade the OS to include the latest Microsoft service pack.

SurgeArrest - minimum install distance of 10 meters (30ft).

Issue:

Why does my Surge Arrest manual indicate the following?

CAUTION: Do not install this device if there is not at least 10 meters (30 feet) or more of wire between the electrical outlet and the electrical service panel.

Product Line:

APC Surge Arrest products

Environment:

Residential use

Cause:

UL1449, 3rd Edition "Standard for Safety for Surge Protective Devices"

Resolution:

There were major revisions made to the UL1449 standard in the mid to late 2000's. Increased safety testing for medium fault current levels, as well as the creation of a single UL standard for all surge protection devices (SPD) were implemented. In September of 2006, Underwriters Laboratories released the revised UL1449, 3rd Edition standard with full industry compliance required by September of 2009. Standard, UL1449 3rd Edition now combines TVSS devices along with surge arresters rated 600v or less, under one certification. The UL1449, 3rd Edition Standard is now broken out into "Type" designations ranging from Type 1-5.

SPD Type - used to describe the intended application location of the SPD, either upstream or downstream of the main overcurrent protective device of the facility. SPD Types include:

  • Type 1- A permanently connected SPD intended for installation between the secondary of the service transformer and the line side of the service equipment overcurrent device, as well as the load side, including watt-hour meter socket enclosures and Molded Case SPDs intended to be installed without an external overcurrent protective device.

  • Type 2- A permanently connected SPD intended for installation on the load side of the service equipment overcurrent device, including SPDs located at the branch panel and Molded Case SPDs.

  • Type 3- Point of utilization SPDs, installed at a minimum conductor length of 10 meters (30 feet) from the electrical service panel to the point of utilization, for example cord connected, direct plug-in, receptacle type SPDs installed at the utilization equipment being protected. The distance (10 meters) is exclusive of the conductors provided with or used to attach SPDs.

  • Type 4- Component Assemblies -,Component assembly consisting of one or more Type 5 components together with a disconnect (internal or external) or a means of complying with the limited current tests.

  • Type 1, 2, 3 Component Assemblies - Consist of a Type 4 component assembly with internal or external short circuit protection.

  • Type 5 - Discrete component surge suppressors, such as MOVs that may be mounted on a PWB, connected by its leads or provided within an enclosure with mounting means and wring terminations.

UL1449, 3rd Edition now requires that all SPD Types be tested to verify that the average transient voltage surge is limited to the voltage protection rating (VPR) assigned to the SPD. The VPR of an SPD is often referred to as it's "let-through voltage" and is determined during a combination ring wave test conducted at a setting of 6kV / 3kA. This VPR rating is required to be clearly visible on any compliant UL1449, 3rd Edition device.

Type 1 and Type 2 rated surge protection devices are additionally tested to UL96A "Lightning Protection Systems" specifications, as they are at or before the electrical service entrance. Type 3 surge protection devices are subjected to an operating duty cycle test with a combination ring wave at a setting of 6kV / 3kA. This test represents the typical surge encountered at a distance of 10 meters (30ft) from the main electrical service panel. A Type 3 surge protection device is not intended for direct lightning protection, therefore it is tested beyond the potentially effected area.

It is important to note that Type 3 surge protection devices are considered secondary and should be used downstream from the main service panel.

Ideally for residential use, Type 2 which is often referred to as "TVSS" protection should always be installed at the main electrical service entrance.

Bad product label for "Rohs designed" XBTF terminals: their Product Version : should be PV>=20 since April 2007

Goals and Symptoms

Bad product label for "Rohs designed" XBTF terminals: their Product Version should be PV>=20 since April 2007

Facts and Changes

Several "Rohs designed" XBTF terminals have been produced at Agriers Plant (Angoulême) with a wrong Product Version on their labels:
XBTF024110
XBTF034110
XBTF024510
XBTF034510
However, the packaging labels are correct (PV>=20).

Their Product label should be with PV>=20, as their CPU card is "Rohs design" model.
This PV number is the mean to sort the XBTF between "old" CPU cards and XBTF with "Rohs design" CPU cards.
The consequence is that the customers get confuse on which XBTL software configuration version they need to use.

Causes and Fixes

All customers concerned by this issue must be informed that :
1/ the "Rohs designed" XBTF terminals with Date Code > 0622 (May 2006) should be with PV >= 20.
=> so these terminals must be configured with XBTL as Terminal Type = XBTFxxxxxx(2)
2/ it is not necessary to return the PRODUCTS, as it is only a matter of bad marking on the product label
3/ The label marking issue has been fixed at Agriers plant: all XBTF(see upper list) terminals with Date Code > 0730 (July 2007) have now PV >= 20.

How To Force a Particular ION Enterprise VISTA Diagram to Open for a Given User on Startup

Summary

In some circumstances, it is desirable to maintain a specific Vista workspace for a particular user, so every time the user logs into Vista, the same set of diagrams are opened.

1) Log on to VISTA using the user account that is to be set up.
2) Organize VISTA to appear as you want it to appear on startup.
3) Save, and close VISTA.
4) Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the ION Enterprise(or PEGASYS)/config/cfg/ud directory. Notice there is a .wsu file named for each user account.
5) Locate the .wsu file for the user account you want to lock down and right click to bring up the Properties dialog box.
6) Mark the file as Read-Only

Now, every time that this user logs into VISTA, the same set of diagrams will be displayed.

Up one level (back) button does not work in ION Enterprise Vista.

When drilling down to the next window the back button will always give the error message this is the top level diagram even though it isn't the top level this happens because the browse closes active window option is checked in Vista under the options menu. Uncheck this and the back button will work again.
If this is not an option or undesireable, this can be caused by the registry having the wrong path to the system folder. To resolve this do the following:

1) Open the registry by going to Start > Run > and type regedit > click ok
2) Navigate to the following directory where x.x is the version of ION Enterprise: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Schneider Electric\ION Enterprise\x.x
3) Find Root1 and verify that the path to the system folder is exactly what it should be.

How do I know if a UPS is still under warranty

The date of manufacture is contained in all APC serial numbers.  The serial number will be a number like
AS0636310220.  The first 4 digits indicate the year and week of manufacture, so in this instance
the unit was manufactured in the 36th week of 2006.  Most APC UPS come with a 2 year warranty as standard.
The exception to this are the SUVT and Symmetra ranges which come with a 1-year warranty.
