Wiser Power Meter readings are negative or missing? What is wrong?

Issue:
Wiser Power Meter readings are negative or missing?  What is wrong?

Product Line:
Wiser Home Management System
Generation 1.0 (2012 to 2015)
Wiser Power Monitor WISERJLPM200

Environment:
Residential Home in North America
www.wiserenergy.com

Cause:
There are a few different root causes and corrective actions that might apply to missing or negative power readings from a WISERJLPM200 meter.

Resolution:

1.  Make sure that the Power Meter is correctly installed and powered.  It must be connected to 2 phases of power.  The lights A and B on the Power Meter should be either solid red or solid green.  If this is not true, consult installation documents for WISERJLPM200.

2.  Make sure that the Power Meter is joined to the home Wiser Network.  On www.wiserenergy.com, check the Settings Tab, Device List.   If the Power Meter is not in the list, try to connect to it.  See Account Setup FA225429.  If the Power Meter is correctly joined to the Wiser Network. the Zigbee light on the Power Meter will be solid green.

3.  In a normal installation, the A and B lights on the Power Meter should both be green.   If the CTs are installed backward or crossed phases, then both lights A and B will be red.  In this case, the Power Meter will always read a negative value.   This situation can be corrected by Wiser Tech Support.  Submit a support ticket through www.wiserenergy.com or contact tech support at
888-320-9158 or 855-559-4737

4.  If one of the A or B lights is green and other is red, then one for the current transformers (CTs) is installed backwards.  This can only be corrected by an electrician who must access the CTs inside of the breaker panel and correct the installation.  The arrows that are etched into the CTs must both point in the same direction.

5.  If the house has solar generation or other renewable energy source of sufficient size that the power sometimes flows in reverse to the grid, then the Power Use Now readings will be negative at those times.   The energy graph on www.wiserenergy.com does not support negative power flow.  The energy graph will show zero for these times.

Please review the Wiser Power Monitor Wiring Application Guide for more details.

After upgrading firmware on my APC AP8XXX series Rack PDU, the input voltage reads 1V

Issue

Upon upgrading AP8XXX Rack PDU firmware from v5.X.X to v6.0.9 or v6.1.0, the input voltage reading shows 1V. (This also causes Power Factor to read approximately 0.10 and device load to show approximately 0 as well.) Please see examples below.

Product Line
  • Rack Power Distribution
    • AP8XXX series

Environment
  • All serial numbers
  • Upgrade scenarios from v5.X.X firmware to rpdu2g APP v6.0.9 or v6.1.0

Cause

This is due to a firmware issue which typically affects high density AP8XXX series Rack PDUs with high load and high ambient temperature. Upon a firmware upgrade, the Rack PDU phase metering chip (located in the PDU chassis) does not initialize properly, causing the PDU input voltage to mistakenly read 1V. This affects subsequent calculations and readings that utilize the input voltage value including device load and power factor. After downgrading back to v5.X.X, the voltage reads normally.

Resolution

This issue has been addressed in rpdu2g firmware APP v6.3.3 and higher. This update is available https://www.apc.com/tools/download/index.cfm as of June, 2015.

If you are unable to upgrade immediately for some reason, APC Rack PDU engineering has been able to fix the issue by reducing the load on the Rack PDU, reducing the ambient temperature, or power cycling the entire Rack PDU for 5-10 seconds.

Alternatively, downgrading the Rack PDU to rpdu2g v5.1.6 is a viable solution if none of the above can be completed prior to applying the firmware fix, when available. If you consider downgrading your Rack PDU from v6.X.X. to v5.X.X, please read this knowledge base article ID -> FA167693.

How to configure your TeSys T using SoMove

The purpose of the FAQ is to show you where are located the different setting parameters when using SoMove configuration tool.
If you have additional question you can use also “TeSys T help” embedded in SoMove help.

You must always have the latest SoMove version screen copy done in November 2015

Note that the configuration tool (generic name "SoMove") is based on the FDT/DTM architecture, thus is in fact composed of two components
- The FDT container : SoMove
- The DTM Device Type Manager : there is one single DTM for both the TeSys U and the TeSys T

Most recent versions of each of these components shall be installed on your laptop.

Wiser Home Management General Information

Issue:
What is the Wiser Home Management System?
How does Wiser Home Managament Work?

Product Line:
Wiser 1.0.  Wiser Generation 1
sold between 2013 and 2015

Environment:
Residential Homes,  United States and Canada

Cause:
General Information

Resolution:

The Resolution described here is current as of May 2015

The Wiser system is a network of devices that make residential homes use less energy.  They do not prevent energy loss in the same way that efficient windows, doors, and insulation.  But they can make a home less wasteful of energy.

The Wiser System consists of 3 types of devices:  Thermostats, Power Monitors, and Load Control Relays.    These devices talk to each other and the Coordinator Gateway via ZigBee radio.  The Coordinator Gateway sends data and receives commands via the internet.   Thus, a home owner can program his thermostats, monitor power usage, and control loads via the web portal or mobile app.

Wiser System can be sold on the the open retail market and it is also distributed through utility companies implementing Demand Energy Response programs.   Wiser Systems that are sold and distributed through utility companies will be connected and react to Demand Energy Events by that utility company.   For example, on a hot summer day when the electric grid is at max capacity, the utility company may command the participating Wiser Systems to adjust their thermostat temperature setpoints up 3 degrees to reduce the HVAC loads and relieve the burden on the power grid.

Wiser Systems sold through retail channels would not be connected to any utility program and would never receive Demand Energy Response commands.

If one were to install a system today, one would need a Wiser Coordinator to start, EER21200.  Every system must have one of those.  It serves as a hub and communication gateway to the internet.  One could add Power Monitors, Thermostats, and Load Control Devices as he wishes.  Add up to 10 devices to a single Coordinator.

There are 3 Thermostats for Wiser, EER56000, EER56100, and EER58000.

There are 2 versions of Power Monitors:  part numbers are WISERJLPM200 and WISERCTPM200.   Both can monitor 200 Amp circuits.  JL can only monitor a single 240V circuit with 2 CTs.    The CT unit can accept 4 CTs.   It can monitor 2 240V circuits, 4 120V circuits, or any combination.   The CT unit was just very recently released so it is not on the Parts List attachment.

There are several devices for switching circuits  on and off.  See the Parts List

I have also attached some marketing materials of Wiser.  Note that they show possible interfaces to Solar Inverters, EV Charging stations and Security Systems.  These are not available at this time.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where can I purchase Wiser Components?
Electrical contractors can purchase through Schneider Electric Dealers such as Graybar, Grainger, CED, and many others.  Retail customers can purchase through HomeDepot.com and Amazon.com

Is there a monthly fee?
Most features of Wiser are free including Power Monitoring and Thermostat control.  Some features such as Switching of Load Control Devices require a subscription to the Premium Plan

Can I demo or view Wiser System on the web?
