What are the differences between Timer and Run-on Timer function?

Timer: Set a timer, press the button to switch ON and at the same time, the timer will start to count down and the lights/load will switch off when the timer reaches zero.

Run-on Timer: Set a timer, press the button to switch ON then press the button to switch OFF. Once the switch is turned off the timer starts to count down and the lights/load will turn off when the timer reaches zero.
