Wiser Smart Home elevates daily living
When Michaela Reilly saw how much a Clipsal Wiser Smart Home could bring to everyday life in her family’s new home, she was quick to add it to their must-have list.
Wiser ticked all the boxes: energy efficiency, safety and security, easy control, as well as comfort and convenience.

A smart home made easy
Michaela and her husband were looking for inspiration ahead of their new build when they saw the Wiser Smart Home in action at a show home. She was immediately struck by how simple the system was and the convenience it offered through control of lighting, air conditioning, blinds, and even connected power points.
“Straight away I said, ‘How can we get that integrated into our build?’” Michaela laughs. “It was easy, and what I love about it is it’s seamless, it’s not clunky. There isn’t any big hardware or cords that you see.”
Wiser is scalable too, so elements can be added over time. This was perfect when the family decided to add an outdoor kitchen and pergola after moving in. “We could retrofit our outdoor blinds, ceiling fans and lighting into the Wiser system,” explains Michaela. “Now everything is integrated from an indoor to outdoor perspective.”

Control at your fingertips
Wiser links to the Wiser by SE app for easy control from a smart device, whether you’re at home, at work – or anywhere else in the world. You can easily view and manage each element by turning them on or off or setting schedules on the app.
Wiser also integrates with Apple HomeKit for voice control options. “If we’re serving dinner and decide to eat outside, I can just say, ‘Hey Siri, turn on our fresco fan’,” says Michaela. “It does feel like I’m on the cutting edge of technology!”
Wiser Connected Switches also link to the app, making it easy to check if anything plugged into them has been left on. Michaela says that rushing home to check if she turned off her hair straighteners is a thing of the past. “I don’t have to worry about that now. I have easy access to the app and I can just flick it off. It’s so easy to manage appliances.”

Safe and sound
The couple have used motion sensors around their home for safety and security. The children have motion sensor night lights in their bedrooms and there is a motion sensor connected to the garage door. “If the garage door is opened, it generates a notification to my phone,” says Michaela. “I know straight away, which is great from a security perspective.”
Motion sensors in the laundry turn lights on and off too, making life easier when Michaela has her hands full with laundry baskets. The family’s electrician recommended Wiser Connected Smoke Alarms, which all sound if smoke is detected and trigger lighting. “I could just imagine trying to round up everyone in the family to get them outside the house quickly and safely in an emergency. Having those lights on would make life so much easier,” says Michaela. The system also sends a phone alert if no one is home.
And the family can rest easy when they’re away on holiday, knowing their house looks lived in thanks to automating their lights and blinds with the Wiser app. “I usually schedule lights from sunset and set the blinds to come down as well. It looks like someone’s actually there and we can do that remotely when we get to our destination too.”

Maximising energy efficiency
Michaela says a major benefit of the Wiser Smart Home system is the savings the family makes by keeping an eye on their energy efficiency through the app.
“We’ve got solar and battery and having that information in one spot means I can make smart decisions around the best time to use bigger appliances such as air conditioning. We’ll use it during the day to make sure the house is cool when we get home, rather than turning it on in late in the afternoon.”
A newly purchased EV is also part of their energy savings. “I can plug it in and set it to charge at a time where we’re getting the most value for money. We’ve definitely changed our behaviours to see the energy efficiency that we are getting.”

Making life special
Wiser also adds even more convenience and enjoyment to daily life with its ‘Moments’ feature, which links elements around your home into one action.
Michaela has created an ‘Entertaining Moment’ that transforms their al fresco area with a single screen tap when they have friends and family over. “Instead of running around to put all these different lights and fans on, I can do it all on the Wiser app. It turns the pool lights and the water feature on, both outdoor fans are spinning and it just brings a really nice ambience to the outdoor living area.”
She says Wiser makes it easy to get more enjoyment out of her home’s features, without having to think about it. “Having our outdoor lighting come on automatically at dusk every night is really lovely. And our water feature isn’t something I would probably put on, but having it automated means I get to enjoy all of those things.”
Wiser’s geofencing feature means the system also knows when Michaela has left the house and will turn off any remaining lights, and turn them on again when she returns. “I never have to come into a dark house. It knows that I’m coming in. We walk through to our mud room, through to our hallway and those lights are on, which is great when I’m carrying shopping and there are kids in and out.”
