Many times an smtp relay server requires a valid FROM address in order to send the email. The "FROM" address on the 300, 303, 310, and 400 series appliances is a combination of the Location field and the DNS Domain field, i.e. location@dnsdomain.com. To properly set the "FROM:" address on a 300, 303, 310 or 400 series appliance you need to properly populate the "Location" field and "DNS Domain" fields on the appliance. Follow these instructions to set these fields:

Location: Browse to "Settings, Location" then populate the appliance location field with what should be the part of the return address before the @ sign. Example, for the return email address to be "netbotz-server-room@netbotz.com", I would set the "Location" field to be "netbotz-server-room".

DNS Domain: Browse to "Network, DNS" and set the "DNS Domain" to be the domain name that should come after the @ sign. Using the example above, I would simply make the DNS Domain "netbotz.com".

On a 320/420/500 series appliance, the "FROM" address is set on the "Email Server" configuration screen. Simply go into "Configuration, Email Server" then set the "From" field at the top of that configuration panel with the full email address as you would like it to appear, e.g. netbotz-server-room@netbotz.com.

NOTE: You do NOT need to use the location field & DNS Domain fields on the 320/420/500 appliances.

Cause

Many users are upgrading their networking environments and looking to understand if APC Network Management Card devices support 1GB/10GB Ethernet connections.


Resolution

APC Network Management Card enabled devices support 10/100mbps Ethernet connections. Generally, 1GB Ethernet switches will support 100mbps (either by auto-negotation or configuration modification) but 10GB switches will not. Though, sometimes vendors offer special hardware modules that can provide 100mbps capability for 10GB Ethernet Switches.

It is suggested that users can check the documentation on their networking equipment to find out if the equipment is capable of 10mbps or more commonly 100mbps and how it can be accomplished. If it can, then APC Network Management Cards will operate normally in a 100mbps environment.

Resolution:
Customer cannot connect a 1000Mb fiber connection directly to the ECC21 or EGX400.
As per the ECC21 and EGX400 Installation Manuals, the fiber port is compatible with 100Mb networks only.
If gigabit fiber network connections are needed, a 100Mb multi-mode LC fiber converter will be required. 

Alternately, a gigabit fiber switch with 10/100/1000 copper ethernet connections could be used. In this instance, the fiber would be run to the switch and 10/100 ethernet to the EGX or ECC gateway.

Resolution:

For NetBotz version 1 (300/300B/310/400) models, each unit (1...11) in Audio task represents 20 dB.

For version 2 (320/420/500) models and version 3 (355/450/455/550/570) models, the audio level (1...100) does not have directed a correlation to a dB level other than the higher the range the higher the dB of the noise detected. This is due to the fact that the NetBotz devices have a Voice Discrimination logic that will focus the sensor listening in a frequency range that alarms produce audio at. Also the configuration of the audio sensors is dependent on the deployment of the devices. Since the audio level being detected is in relation to the location of the device it requires the user to configure the sensor levels thresholds based off of the actual audio alarm levels and compare them to the normal room noise level.

It is very difficult to measure dB since the room environment can have an effect on the noise level. To test audio sensors on NetBotz 320/420/500 appliance, the suggested method for setting audio is to view the audio graph over a period of time to see the bounds to set a trigger for.

Back-UPS is detected as an ""Unknown Device"" in Device Manger

Issue:

Back-UPS is detected as an ""Unknown Device"" in Device Manger

Cause:

If communication between the PC and the USB compatible Back-UPS, is not working properly when the cable is first connected, an ""Unknown Device"" is detected. This problem may be the result of a weak USB receiver on the PC side. If the UPS itself is not detected when the cable is connected (i.e., its not detecting a ""Back UPS Pro 350"", the installation of APC's Power Management Extensions or Powerchute Personal Edition may fail or hang after the setup.exe file is executed.


Resolution:

1. Make sure the UPS and PC are turned on. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable a few times until the PC detects the appropriate UPS model. Once it
does, continue on with the installation instructions. If this is not successful, go to the next step.


2. Check to see if the Human Interface Device (HID) drivers are already installed. If they are not installed, the Add New Hardware Wizard will not start
up when the USB cable is connected. If the HID drivers are installed, then continue on with the installation of APC's Power Management Extensions
software. To check to see if these drivers are installed go to Device Manager (Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager) and look for a
device category called ""Human Interface Device"". If you then unplug the USB cable, this line item will disappear. When you reconnect the cable, the
category will reappear. This confirms that the drivers are properly installed.


3. Confirm that your PC's USB ports are enabled. Go to Device Manager (Start - Settings - Control Panel - System - Device Manager) and look at the list of installed devices.
Towards the bottom, you should see, ""Universal Serial Bus controllers"" and within that you will see, XXX ""Universal Host Controller"" and ""USB Root Hub"".
If Device Manager does not list these items, then your PC is not properly configured to support USB ports. Consult your PC manufacturer for help on this issue.


4. If you are connected through a USB Hub, try connecting the supplied UPS's USB cable directly to a USB port on the PC itself.


5. If other USB devices are connected, try removing those other devices before connecting our USB cable.


6. If possible, try the same installation on another PC or with another UPS.


7. Reboot your PC. After reboot, did your PC recognize the UPS or are you still receiving the initial message of ""Please check that the USB cable between your battery backup and PC is properly connected”? If so, there are a few parameters of your PC’s BIOS that need to be changed in order for your PC to recognize the USB device as an APC UPS after each boot. These changes are as follows:

Advanced Power Management – Needs to be disabled
USB Legacy Device – Needs to be enabled

Note: An APC representative cannot make changes or assist customers in making changes to the BIOS, as it is a liability to APC. The BIOS of your PC is both manufacturer and model specific. Consultation of the Original Equipment Manufacturer is advised in making these changes.

The Com'X features 2 Ethernet ports:

The Ethernet ports can be configured in 2 modes:
     1) Switch mode: in this case both Ethernet ports share a common configuration.
     2) Upstream/downstream mode: both Ethernet ports are configured separately.


1) In switch mode, both Ethernet ports have the same settings. Using 2 ports simplifies wiring:
    -  Ethernet 1 can be connected to a switch on a local network.
     - Ethernet 2 can be used to connect a PC for configuration operations or to connect a data collection device locally with an Ethernet port.

2) In upstream/downstream mode, the 2 Ethernet ports have different settings and function independently:
    - Ethernet 1 must be used for data publishing. It can be also configured in DHCP Client mode or static IPv4 address mode.
    - Ethernet 2 must be used for data collection. It can be configured as DHCP client, static IPv4 address, or DHCP server.

Cause

You may run into a scenario in which you or a user believes the Network Management Card (or any other network enabled device) is faulty because it cannot be reached it through the particular network. This is typically a configuration issue or problem with the network. If there are lights on the NMC (or the particular device's) network jack, it is very likely the card itself is operating. Because troubleshooting a customer network issue is typically outside the scope of Schneider Electric technical support, it is technical support's prerogative to prove the Schneider Electric device is functional. We can do this by creating a direct connection between the a user's computer and the NMC (or other device type), which eliminates the particular network as a variable in most, if not all, scenarios. Essentially, we are creating a mini network between the computer and the NMC (or other networked device).

Furthermore, these instructions can be helpful for obtaining logs or data from the network interface of a device if a typical network connection via a hub, switch, or router is unavailable.

Please refer to the instructions below in order to sit up the mini network.

(This example will refer to a Network Management Card (NMC) but the steps are the same for any networked device for the most part).
  • Set the IP address of the NMC to a non-routable network address. For our purposes, we will use 192.168.1.2
  • Set a Subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
  • Set the default gateway of the NMC as the IP address of the computer. For our purposes we will use 192.168.1.3
  • Configure a static IP on the computer in the same network. (In a Windows environment this is typically located under control panel > network connections > Local Area Connection.)
  • Choose properties, scroll down to TCP/IP and choose properties
  • Click the radio box for "Use the following IP address" and enter the IP information. For our example, enter:
    • IP: 192.168.1.3
    • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Default gateway: 192.168.1.2 (which is the IP address of the NMC)

Click Ok, then close. The computer will take a second to cycle its network interface to take the new IP settings. Connect the crossover (or straight through, in the case of gigabit) cable.
After completing the above configuration, for our example, we are having the APC device look at the computer as its default gateway and having the computer look at the APC device as its default gateway. In a customer scenario, this should hold true, no matter what IP address scheme they choose to use.

From the computer, you should now be able to ping the IP of the NMC, in our case 192.168.1.2. You can also access telnet or the web interface. This is proof that the NMC's interface is accessible.

Remember that the computer's IP settings will likely need to be reconfigured again to regain normal network communications after testing.
