How to config SE8350 or SE8650 for Modbus RS-485 communications to SpaceLogic C-Bus Automation Controllers

1) Enter the Setup screen

2) Select the Network option

How to configure a C-Bus Automation Controller to SE8350 or SE8650 Room Controller for Modbus RS-485 communications

Upon successful login to the C-Bus 5500NAC2 (Network Automation Controller) or 5500AC2 (Application Controller)

Setting Modbus RTU Settings
1) Select the Configurator option from the 5500NAC2 / 5500AC2 - start page 
2) Select the Modbus tab to display modbus devices, settings and options
3) Select the RTU Settings option in the bottom left corner
4) Check the RTU (serial) enabled option for an available RTU connection 
5) Set the port to /dev/RS485 
6) Set the baud rate to match baud rate set in SE8350 or SE8650 (possible options - 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600)
7) Set the parity bit to match parity set in SE8350 or SE8650 (possible options none (1 stop bit), odd, even, none (2 stop bit). 
8) Set duplex option to "half duplex"
9) Select the Save button to set the Modbus RTU Settings

Scanning Modbus RTU for Devices
1) Select the RTU Scan option in the bottom left corner
2) Enter the Scan range start (COM address of first SE8350/8650 in daisy chain) 
3) Enter the Scan range end (COM address of last SE8360/8650 in daisy chain) 
4) Select the Save button to start RTU scan for modbus devices

5) From the RTU Scan results - check the add device option and specify the name, modbus profile (SE8300, SE8600 or SER8300 depending on series of SE Room Controller). 
Note: The SE8300 series profile covers the SE8350 room controllers, SE8600 series profile covers the SE8650 room controllers.

6) Select the Save button to add the devices to the list of modbus devices

Adding User Parameter Objects - Needed for Modbus Mapping
1) Select the Objects tab from the configuration page tabs to display C-Bus Automation Controller objects
2) Select the Add New Object option in the bottom left corner to add a user parameter which will later be mapped to a modbus device register
3) Select User Parameter option from the Application dropdown
4) Add a new variable address and provide a meaningful tag name
5) Select an option that matches the modbus register type from the Data type dropdown (eg floating point for temperature reading or temperature setpoint)
6) Specify keywords, units, comments as appropriate
7) Select the Save button to add the new user parameter to the list of C-Bus Automation Controller objects

example: the newly added user parameter object will appear in the objects list and its value prior to modbus mapping will be shown as the default value in this case 0.000°C

Mapping Modbus Device Registry to User Parameter
1) Select the Modbus tab from the configuration page tabs
2) From the modbus device list select the applicable modbus device's mapping icon under the mapping column
3) From the modbus device's register list select the link to object field next to the modbus register to be mapped
4) From the mapping dialog use the link to object dropdown list to link the modbus register to the corresponding user parameter
5) Specify the value delta, units, keywords and comments as applicable
6) Select Save button to link the modbus device register to the user parameter object

Check User Parameter value for updates from SE8350/8650 Room Controller
1) Select the Objects tab from the configuration page tabs to display C-Bus Automation Controller objects
2) Check that the User Parameter object which was just mapped from SE8350/8650 modbus device register is updating as expected

Modbus RS-486 Cabling - Requirements
D1+ and D0- = Twisted Pair, Shielded, Imp 120Ω - eg Belden 9842
COM = Common (Reference) Wire

The 5500NAC2 and 5500AC2 contain the following optional in-built terminators options:
low power terminator of 120 Ω + 1 nF via link AT–BT
legacy terminator of 120 Ω via link BT-A

5500NAC2 or 5500AC2 - D1+ connector is wired to pin 13 (RS-485 +) on the SE8350/8650               - shown by brown wire
5500NAC2 or 5500AC2 - D0- connector is wired to pin 14 (RS-485 -) on the SE8350/8650                 - shown by blue wire
5500NAC2 or 5500AC2 - COMM - connector is wired to pin 15 (RS-485 REF) on the SE8350/8650     - shown by green wire

Modbus RS-485 communication line must be terminated at each end
