Galaxy 5000, Galaxy 5500; Dust Covers


 
Issue:
It has been determined that dust and other foreign conductive particles have been getting inside the UPS during shipping or from site construction projects during installation.
 
Product line:
Galaxy 5000, Galaxy 5500
 
Environment:
All models, all serial numbers
 
Cause:
Conductive dust and particles negatively affect system operation by increasing component temperatures and reducing dielectric strength.



Resolution:
Temporary front and top covers are being applied to Galaxy 5000 units prior to shipping to protect the unit from foreign particles.

What is used as the C-Bus to Bacnet Gateway

The 5500NAC or 5500SHAC can be used as Bacnet gateway depending on the number of Bacnet points which are required.
The 5500NAC has 500 Bacnet Points and the 5500SHAC has 50 Bacnet points.
Bacnet is normally used by Building Management systems.

Due to site maintenance, inclement weather, and other conditions, request come in for assistance with Powering Down the Galaxy 5000 UPS
 
Resolution:
The instructions to power down the UPS are available on the display.  This procedure is for a single UPS without an external bypass panel. 
 
These instructions are in the owner’s manual which can be located at https://www.apc.com/salestools/MBPN-8YPFLA/MBPN-8YPFLA_R0_EN.pdf
 
Step 1: Touch any button on the display to wake it up.
Step 2: Push the Menu Button
Step 3: Scroll to “Maintenance”
Step 4: Choose “Stop the UPS”
Step 5: Press the Inverter OFF (gray) button for 3 seconds to transfer the load to the Static Bypass Switch. 
At this point, the load is no longer protected by the UPS.
Step 6: Turn the maintenance bypass switch Q3BP to ON.
Step 4: Turn the output switch Q5N to OFF.
            The UPS is now fully isolated from the load.
Step 5: Set the battery circuit breaker(s) QF1 to Off Position.
Step 6: Turn the Q1 Switch to Off
Step 7: Turn the Q4S Switch to Off
Wait until the display and LEDs turn off.
 
Caution: There is still stored energy in the capacitors, and batteries inside the UPS.  Never remove any covers or panels.  There are no user serviceable parts inside.

For various reasons, the Galaxy 5000 may be in a totally off state.  This guide illustrates how to restore it to normal operation.
 
Note: This is not for commissioning a new UPS.  The commissioning of a new UPS must be performed by a Schneider Electric trained and qualified service representative.
 
Resolution:
How to restore the Galaxy 5000 UPS from total power off to normal operation.  This procedure is for a single UPS without an external bypass panel.

Step 1: Set the input Q1 switch to On
Step 2: Wait until the end of the UPS initialization with PFC start-up.

Step 5: Turn the Q4S Switch to On
Step 6: Turn the output switch Q5N to On
Step 7: Turn the maintenance bypass switch Q3BP to Off

Step 9: Press the Green “Inverter Start Button”
The Inverter Assumes the load, and the UPS is normal operation with the load protected.
 
Caution: Never remove any covers or panels.  There are no user serviceable parts inside.

Cause:
Due to site maintenance, inclement weather, and other conditions, request come in for assistance with Powering Down the Galaxy 5000 UPS
 
Resolution:
The instructions to power down the UPS are available on the display.  This procedure is for a single UPS with an external maintenance bypass panel. 
 
Regardless of wall mount, or free standing, the external breakers have the same designation.
 
These instructions are in the owner’s manual which can be located at https://www.apc.com/salestools/MBPN-8YPFLA/MBPN-8YPFLA_R0_EN.pdf
 
Step 1: Touch any button on the display to wake it up.
Step 2: Push the Menu Button
Step 3: Scroll to “Maintenance”
Step 4: Choose “Stop the UPS”
Step 5: Press the Inverter OFF (gray) button for 3 seconds to transfer the load to the Static Bypass Switch. 
At this point, the load is no longer protected by the UPS.
Step 6: In the MBP (Maintenance Bypass Panel), push and hold the “Transfer Initiate” button.  Remove the key from it’s lock.
Step 7: Use the key to unlock CB1 – Maint Bypass. 
Turn on the CB1 breaker.
Step 8: Unlock CB2, remove the key, and place it in the key interlock.
Turn off the CB2 Isolation Breaker.
            The UPS is now fully isolated from the load. 
Step 9: Set the battery circuit breaker(s) QF1 to Off Position.
Step 10: Turn off the CB3 Input Breaker
Step 11: Open the UPS door.
            Turn off Q1 Switch
Turn off Q4S switch
 
Wait until the display and LEDs turn off.
 
Caution: There is still stored energy in the capacitors, and batteries inside the UPS.  Never remove any covers or panels.  There are no user serviceable parts inside.
