      NetBotz v3 | Serial connection issues

      Issue:
      Issues connecting serially to a v3 NetBotz appliance.

      Cause:
      NetBotz version 3 appliances have integrated USB to serial adapters to allow connecting to the appliance using a USB-A to USB-B cable.  The USB connection to the appliance may not work properly without installing the required FTDI serial driver first.

      Resolution:

      Download and Install the driver from FTDI
      Issues with USB 3.0 Ports from some manufacturers
       
      Download and Install the driver from FTDI

      1) Navigate to https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm
      2) Download the driver as a setup executable.


      3) Once downloaded run the setup executable to install the necessary drivers.
      4) The USB cable may need to be unplugged and plugged back in to establish the proper serial connection.
      5) There should now be an entry for a USB Serial communication port under Ports (COM & LPT).
       
      Issues with Windows 7 USB 3.0 ports with FTDI driver

      After installing the correct driver, the NetBotz Appliance may still show as an unknown device within the device manager when using a USB 3.0 port on a Windows 7 system.  To allow the driver to work properly, connect to the appliance using a USB 2.0 port.       NetBotz v3 | How do I enable/disable SNMP?

      Issue:
      Issues connecting serially to a v3 NetBotz appliance.

      Resolution:

      Enable SNMP on a v3 NetBotz Appliance

      1) Download and install the Advanced View Application.  Instructions for download can be found in knowledge base FA230223.
      NOTE: If Advanced View is already installed, skip step 1.

      2) Log into your NetBotz appliance as an administrator using the Advanced View application.

      3) Select the Configuration tab and then under Appliance Settings navigate into SNMP.

      4) Check the box for Enable SNMP agent.

      5) Fill out the information within Version 1/Version 2c or Version 3 tabs.
      NOTE: SNMPv3 settings are based on user profiles.  For user profile configuration see knowledge base FA323442.

      6) Select OK to save the settings.


      Disabling SNMP 

      1) Download and install the Advanced View Application.  Instructions for download can be found in knowledge base FA230223.
      NOTE: If Advanced View is already installed, skip step 1.

      2) Log into your NetBotz appliance as an administrator using the Advanced View application.

      3) Select the Configuration tab and then under Appliance Settings navigate into SNMP.

      4) Uncheck the box for Enable SNMP agent.
      NOTE: Specific SNMP portocol versions can not be individually enabled/disabled.  SNMP is either enabled/disabled as a whole protocol.

      6) Select OK to save the settings.

      HTTP and HTTPS turned off by default on NetBotz 4.7

      Issue:
      Due to security requirements HTTP and HTTPS are disabled by default on NetBotz 4.7.

      Cause:
      With the introduction of new California State legislation (SB-327), which comes into effect from January 1st, 2020, any manufacturer of a device that connects “directly or indirectly” to the internet must equip it with “reasonable” security features, designed to prevent unauthorized access, modification, or information dis-closure. APC by Schneider Electric (APC) network-enabled devices firmware is updating in compliance with this legislation. Please note that the NetBotz can still get a DHCP address but without first logging in serially, you can not add it to StruxureWare DCE or log in through the web.

      Resolution:

      The following are the overview of changes which will come into effect with this new Botzware 4.7.0 version. Please note that this applies on a newly deployed or newly reset to default appliance. These changes are not going to affect a unit that is currently configured and is simply being upgraded to 4.7

      WEB access will be OFF by default.  It will be required to login via the USB console (serial session) using root/apc and define a new password.

      You will then be able to login using a web browser via HTTPS (https://Netbotz_IP) with the following credentials:
           Username: apc
           Password: defined during initial console configuration


      Note: The serial config utility no longer works with v4.7 and higher.  This is due to the fact that it can not process the new password requirement.

      TIP: 
      To ensure security, change the default Administrator account User name and Password.
      NOTE: The Guest and Administrator Accounts are permanent and cannot be removed. Their settings can be modified.
      NOTE: If you give the Guest account any set of privileges other than "None", you are effectively giving unauthenticated users access to the features of the device. The security of the appliance's network should be considered before taking this step.

      1) Log into the NetBotz appliance using the Advanced View application.
      NOTE: For instructions on downloading Advanced View, see knowledge base FA230223.

      2) Select the Configuration tab.

      3) Under Appliance Settings, double-click into Users.
       
      Editing an Existing User

      1) Select a user from the list and click Edit.
      NOTE: The default Guest and Administrator Accounts are permanent and cannot be removed. Their settings can be modified, with the exception of the Administrator account's privilege set.

      2) The following information can be edited:
      - Name: Descriptive name that displays in the Users list.
      - User Name: Username used for authentication.
      - Password (Verify Password): Password used in combination with the User Name for authentication.

      3) Click OK to save the changes.
       
      Creating a New User

      1) Select Add below the Users list.

      2) Provide the following information:
      Name:  Descriptive name that displays in the Users list.
      - User Name: Username used for authentication.
      - Password (Verify Password): Password used in combination with the User Name for authentication.

      3) Chose a Privilege Set (Listed below) from the drop down list and then click OK.
      Privilege Set Description
      Administrator Gives user access to all information and configuration icons.
      Application Gives user access to only the Navigation, Sensor Data, and selected portions of the Information/Action panes. User accounts configured with the Application privilege set can view the Cameras, Graphs, Alerts, and About panes.
      Application (with Alert Update) Gives user access to only the Navigation, Sensor Data, and selected portions of the Information/Action panes.
      The user can also resolve alert conditions for thresholds that are configured with the Return-To-Normal Requires User Input setting in their Advanced Settings. This privilege set does not permit access to the configuration pane.
      Sensor Gives user access to only the Navigation, Sensor Data, and selected portions of the Information/Action panes. User accounts configured with the Sensor privilege set can view the Cameras, Graphs, and About panes.
      This privilege set does not permit access to the Alerts pane, or to the Appliance Log, Change Root Password, and Reboot Appliance Tool menu selections.
      Sensor (No Camera) Gives user access to only the Navigation, Sensor Data, and selected portions of the Information/Action panes. User accounts configured with the Sensor (No Camera) privilege set can view Graphs and About panes.

      Login Alerting Settings

      Login failure alert severity can be set to any of the following: None, Informational, Warning, Error, Critical, or Failure (default).

      Login failure alert profile to can set to any of the defined alert profiles to provide a login failure security email.

      Data Center Expert | Discovering a NetBotz 300-500 Series Appliance

      Resolution:

      Discovering a NetBotz 300-500 Series Appliance

      1) Log into the DCE Desktop Client using an Administrator account.

      2) Device menu > Add Devices...

      3) Select the Device Discovery Type of NetBotz Appliance and click Next.

      4) Enter the IP or the IP Range. IP Range can be expressed using wildcards (10.10.10.*) or dashes (10.10.10.1-99).
      NOTE: It is recommended to limit the number of IPs that are scanned.  The larger the number of IPs that need to be scanned will lead to longer device discovery times.

      5) Enter the Port that the NetBotz Appliance is configured to use.  Default for HTTP is 80.  Default for HTTPS is 443.

      6) Select the Security Mode for your setup.

      7) Click on the NetBotz Appliance Credentials button.

      8) Ensure that there is an entry for the credentials of the NetBotz Appliance.  These credentials are used by all NetBotz 300-500 & 700 series appliances for communication to DCE.  Changing the credentials of an existing line item could affect communication between another NetBotz Appliance and DCE. Click OK once finished to return to the Device Discovery screen and then click Next.

      9) Select the Device Group to discover the NetBotz Appliance into and then click Next.

      10) If this is a discovery that you would like to re-run on a weekly basis, select the check box for Enable Discovery Scheduling, check a box for a day, and set the discovery time.
      NOTE: This is usually used if you would like to scan a specific subnet for added devices that utilize the same credentials as defined within the discovery settings.
      NOTE: It is not recommended to use this option with an extremely large IP range due to the amount of system resources it takes to run such a large discovery.

      11) Check the Box for Run Discovery Now and click Finish.

      12) The Saved Discoveries pane will appear (may already have been on the screen).  Within the list, find your discovery, wait for the Activity status to go to Idle.  The Last Rune date should have a valid date/time within it.
      NOTE: If the Last Rune date says Never, the check box was not checked in step 11.  Right-click on the line and click Run to run the discovery now.

      13) If the discovery was successful, the device will show within: Monitoring Perspective > Select Group within Device Groups > Device View pane.
      NOTE: If you are unable to locate the device, click on All Devices within the Device Groups pane, and then search for the IP address within the Device View Pane.

      If the device is still not listed, the device discovery was unsuccessful, proceed to Troubleshooting NetBotz Appliance 300-500 Series Device Discovery.
      Troubleshooting NetBotz 300-500 Series Discovery

      1) Log into DCE's web interface and click on Status in the upper-right.

      2) Under Additional Information select Troubleshoot Network and click Submit.

      3) Under Function select Ping.  Enter the IP Address of the NetBotz Appliance under Target Host and click Submit.

      4) If the packet loss within the ping statistics section is at 100%, DCE is unable to ping the NetBotz Appliance over the network.  This usually indicates that the IP Address used is not active on the network.
      NOTE: Your network team should be able to tell you if ICMP traffic is blocked on the network, but on most networks it is available for use.

      5) Download and install the Advanced View Application.  Instructions for this can be found in knowledge base FA230223.

      6) Log into the NetBotz Appliance using the Advanced View Application.  If you are unable to log in, follow the steps in knowledge base FA308010 to set an IP address on the appliance.

      7) Under Appliance Settings, double-click on Network Interfaces.

      8) Verify that the Subnet mask and gateway are correct and click OK.
      NOTE: The IP Address listed is used during the discovery section, but an incorrect subnet mask or gateway can prevent certain network communication.

      9) Under Appliance Settings, double-click on Web Server.

      10) Ensure that the desired port and protocols are selected and click OK.
      NOTE: These should correlate to the Port and Security Mode used for the device discovery.

      11) Follow the steps again in the Discovering a NetBotz 300-500 Series Appliance section.
