Resolution:

This document refers to installing  the APTF10KT01, APTF10KW01, and APTF20KW01 transformers in a North American 120/240 or 120/208 environment. For installations in other regions please consult the users manual.

The wiring block outputs are as follows:


For domestic use, make sure that the Terminal Block Jumper is installed between the Ground Terminal and Terminal 8 on the output wiring block, as illustrated on page 8 of the user manual. Please also make sure that the input voltage switch is in the correct position.

The step-down transformer provides 240/120 output as 2 120v hots, a neutral, and a ground. It provides 208v output as a 120v hot, an 88v hot, and a ground. The 120v hot (terminal  7) and the 88v hot (terminal 9) are 180 degrees out of phase. You will measure 208v from terminals 7 to 9. The step-down transformer is not able to provide 2 120v hots that are 120 degrees out of phase as you would see with utility power.



 Note: If your installation requires both 208v and 120v output power you will need 2 separate subpanels: a 240v/120v panel and a dedicated 208v subpanel.

Maximum recommended discharge level on the batteries used for Symmetra PX 250/500 is 3CA, where CA means the current (Amps) by which the battery is charged or discharged divided by its Amp-hour (Ah) rating.  The 250kW runtime ratio is 10 PMs to 16 battery shelves resulting in a ratio of 1.6 battery shelf per 1 PM. Need to always round up the number of shelves

In some situations, the Power Modules will attempt to draw power from the batteries and if the ratio is not observed, you will potentially clear fuses in the battery modules and (less likely, but it happened before) burn traces on the battery backplane boards due to the DC inrush current.

Resolution:
Making changes on the NMC web interface will also make changes on the ups, but the NMC must first be configured for Read/Write in the user configuration settings on the UPS.  Once this is configured making changes on the NMC will update the display on UPS.

When changing NMC configuration to update Time using NTP, you need to pay attention to the update Interval.  It can be set from 1 to 8760 hours(1 year).  Make sure this is configured as needed.  If time is not immediately updating, click the UPDATE Now box and click apply.  You may need to refresh screen on UPS a couple times to see the change.

The heater per the unit submittal package is field wired.  A junction box is typically placed at the receiver and the heater whip is pulled into this box where a small terminal bock is placed.  From the junction box a conduit whip can be connected to carry the wire to its final termination.  If the unit is 208/230 the incoming power can be split and the heater can be wired direct with fuses to protect the condenser if the heater should ever short out.  If the condenser voltage is 460/480v, a transformer is required (field supplied) this can be mounted externally under the control box and wired accordingly.

Can a 60 Hz rated Transformer be energized with 50 Hz source?

Transformers rated for 60 Hz ONLY are sometimes chosen to be installed in a location that has a 50 Hz Distribution system.

Applies to MOST Transformers made by SquareD/Schneider Electric.  Exceptions are 9070 series Control Transformers and Export Model Transformers which are dual rated for 50Hz and 60Hz.

Cause:
Domestic (USA) power systems are rated 60 Hz.   Many other power systems in the world are rated at 50 Hz.

Resolution:
A 60 Hz rated transformer can only be used on a 60 Hz system (with certain exceptions -- read further.) Whereas a 50 or 50/60 Hz rated transformer can be used on either a 50 or a 60 Hz rated system.
Exception: If the energizing voltage does not exceed 83% of the transformers nominal voltage, the transformer can be used. Remember that transformers are simple ratio devices and the output will also be lower. Another important factor to remember is that the transformer`s capacity will also have to be derated at the same ratio of the applied voltage divided by the nominal voltage.

Example: An EE30T3H, 30kVA 480 delta to 208Y/120 transformer 60 Hz, can be utilized on a 50 Hz system as long as the applied voltage does not exceed 50/60 or 5/6 of the nominal 480, or rather 400 volts. With 400 volts 50 Hz applied, the output voltage will be 400/480 * 208 = 173 volts line-to-line, and 100 volts line-to-neutral, or 173Y/100 50 Hz. As well, the capacity or kVA of the transformer will be 400/480 * 30 = 25kVA. Transformers cannot change frequency, thus frequency in = frequency out.

Resolution:

Our 208/230 and 400/480V rated Altivar 61/71 drives do not require line reactors.  However, depending on the voltage and power quality of the incoming power, a line reactor or other power conditioning device may be necessary in a given installation.  Line reactors are used to filter and clean noisy power being fed into the drive.  They also can lower the incoming voltage a few percentage points if your incoming voltage is running a little high so they are used on a case by case basis, as needed.

The ATV61/71 drives 100HP and below have an internal DC choke which handles a lot of the filtering and power conditioning.  Drives rated 125HP and above have an external DC choke that ships separately and must be field installed.  There is an option to use a 5% line reactor instead of this DC choke so in this case, a 5% line reactor would be mandatory on those drives 125HP and above if the customer decided to not use the DC choke. Either the DC choke or the 5% line reactor must be used, but not both.

Altivar 61/71 drives rated at 575/690V 125HP and above require a 5% line reactor also, it must be used on these drives.

Cause:

The AP9635/AP9635CH Network Management Card 2 (NMC2) is restricted for use with the Symmetra PX 250/500 UPS and other select UPS models. Additionally, before upgrading the firmware for the Management Card when installed in a, you must make sure that the firmware upgrade is compatible with the firmware level that is running on the UPS system (its MIM, PM, etc) . For example, as described in the chart below, a Management Card running v5.0.0 firmware cannot support a UPS with system firmware 4.1.x.x unless the Management Card is upgraded to the SYPX APP v5.0.1 firmware. To obtain the firmware upgrade files for the Management Card, you must contact Technical Support.


Alternatively, the UPS System firmware can be updated to support a Management Card with newer firmware.

Note: The UPS system firmware upgrade can only be performed by a Field Service Engineer.


Resolution:

Review the chart below to make sure the Management Card is running firmware that is compatible with the UPS. To view the UPS System firmware and NMC APP firmware versions from the UPS touchscreen display, press the Firmware Overview button in the System Information menu. The APP firmware version of the Management Card is also displayed in its Web interface, under the Administration->General->About menu.

Resolution: 
When the Breaker is Off (open) the indicator on the right will be green.
Push the lever on the left down and ‘Pump’ it until the indicator turns ‘Yellow’ Indicating Charged.
Once Charged, press the green button to turn the breaker on. The indicator will turn Red indicating the breaker is on.
 
To turn off, just press the off button.

When 2 Network Management Card (NMC) are installed in the UPS and set to NTP (Network Time Protocol), they will fight for control of the time to the display and continually send info alerts on RTC Time Adjusted.  In the chart below you will notice in column 5 there are two different numbers 2 & 4, which would indicate that there is 2 NMC in the UPS one in position #2 and the other in position #4.  This is the indicators that 2 NMC are fighting to provide time through NTP

The VFD will not run when given a run command is activated?

Resolution:
Troubleshooting Enclosed VFD with HOA, Test/Normal and AFC/OFF/BYPASS switch. Terminal 24 is the neutral for the 120 V supply.
 
 
              1).   Is the RCR relay energized with the HOA switch in the Hand position? NO
a). Voltage should be present on Terminal 6 (Verify there is a jumper between 6A and 6, or does the EFLEX have a start stop push button, press the start button)
b). Verify voltage on terminal 6A (Verify HOA is in HAND position and voltage is present on both sides of the normally open contact of the HAND side of the HOA, wire H13 and H14)
c). Verify voltage on terminal 1 (Verify the jumper between terminals 2 and 1 is secure, if the has been remove, verify the circuit wired between the terminals 2 and 1 is closed)
d). Verify voltage on terminal 2 (No voltage on terminal 2 verify Fuse (FU1) on the secondary side to the transformer is not blown.
e). If the fuse (FU1) is not blown, verify voltage on the primary and secondary side to the transformer (verify fuses FU2 and FU3 are not blown and then check the power supply to the cabinet.)
 
              2)   Is the RCR relay energized with the HOA switch in the Auto position? NO
 a). Voltage should be present on Terminal 6 (There is an external auto start contact on terminals 6 and 7 supplied by the end user and verify the contact is closed)
 b). Verify voltage on terminal 7 (Verify HOA is in AUTO position and voltage is present on both sides of the normally open contact of the AUTO side of the HOA, wire A13 and A14)
c). Verify voltage on terminal 1 (Verify the jumper between terminals 2 and 1 is secure, if the has been remove, verify the circuit wired between the terminals 2 and 1 is closed)
 d). Verify voltage on terminal 2 (No voltage on terminal 2 verify Fuse (FU1) on the secondary side to the transformer is not blown.
 e). If the fuse (FU1) is not blown, verify voltage on the primary and secondary side to the transformer (verify fuses FU2 and FU3 are not blown and then check the power supply to the cabinet.)

UPDATED MARCH-2016: Unable to access my APC Network Management Card (NMC) enabled device via HTTPS (SSL/TLS)


Issue

The user is unable to access their APC Network Management Card (NMC) products via HTTPS (SSL/TLS) secured web access.

There are two parts to this issue, both of which occur when the user has their Network Management Card product configured for SSL (HTTPS).
  1.  Companies such as Microsoft, Mozilla, and Google are disabling SSLv3.0 in their browser products due to numerous security vulnerabilities that exist. One such vulnerability is POODLE (https://www.openssl.org/~bodo/ssl-poodle.pdf).  TLSv1.0, at a minimum, is the advised protocol.
 
  1. TLS does not work on the current NMC products.  Therefore, the NMC will fall back to SSLv3.0 and as such, be vulnerable to POODLE.

Examples:
 
An example of this problem, shown via Firefox, is below. A NetBotz Rack Monitor 200 (SKU# NBRK0201) is configured for HTTPS. The user has Firefox v34.0 installed. The user opens their web browser and types the IP address into address bar.  The user is presented with the following error message:
 

Another example of this problem, via Internet Explorer, is below. A NetBotz Rack Monitor 200 (SKU# NBRK0201) is configured for HTTPS.  The user has Internet Explorer v11.0 installed. The user opens their web browser and types the IP address into address bar.  The user is presented with the following error message:
 

Another example of this problem, via Chrome, is below. An AP9631 Network Management Card is configured for HTTPS. The user has Chrome v39 installed. The user opens their web browser and types the IP address into the address bar. The user is presented with the following error message:
 


Browser error messages may include: ERR_SSL_FALLBACK_BEYOND_MINIMUM_VERSION, ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap

    Devices with an embedded Network Management Card 2 include (but are not limited to): 2G Metered/Switched Rack PDUs (AP84XX, AP86XX, AP88XX, AP89XX), G50 AV Units, Smart-UPS Online (SRT), and ACDA901, ACRC301H, ACRC301S Cooling Units, 

Environment

Any customer who uses any one of the products mentioned previously and:
  • Configures their product for SSL (HTTPS).
  • Uses a web browser version that does not allow for web access via SSLv3.0.
Note: HTTP users are not affected. Meaning, if you have not enabled HTTPS (SSL), web browsing will work normally.


Cause

Companies such as Microsoft, Mozilla, and Google are disabling SSLv3.0 in their browser products due to numerous security vulnerabilities that exist. One such example is POODLE (https://www.openssl.org/~bodo/ssl-poodle.pdf). TLSv1.0, at a minimum, is the advised protocol.

Current NMC products have an inability to properly utilize TLS extensions recently released in several modern browsers. With this inability, the NMC device is unable to connect to the browser via TLS. While future versions of the NMC1 devices will not update the underlying cryptology engine, NMC2 devices will be updated to work with current TLS specification and and operate properly with modern browsers.


Resolution

A customer can avoid this problem either by utilizing other access methods on the Network Management Card or they can modify their web browser to allow SSLv3.0 usage (at their own discretion). Other access methods for the Network Management Card are as follows:
  • Local console
  • Web (HTTP)
  • Telnet/SSH
  • SNMPv1/v3

Modifying a web browser to allow SSLv3.0 usage should be addressed by the user’s network security team or facility manager. Schneider Electric will not provide users with instructions on modifying web browser settings. Some users may be prohibited from enabling SSLv3.0 through their web browser.

Any of the following NMC1 products do not currently have any firm future firmware update plans to address this or any future vulnerabilities:

Note: Certain browsers may also require setting changes to allow TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.0 fallback too, such as Firefox v37+. Schneider Electric will not provide step by step instructions for modfying web browser settings for liability reasons but if you're comfortable modifying settings at your own risk, security.tls.version.fallback-limit within Firefox will likely need to be changed from a default value of 3 (forcing TLS 1.2) to a value of 1 to allow fallback to TLS 1.0. This setting also sometimes resets itself between Firefox browser upgrades. Newer Chrome versions may require --ssl-version-fallback-min=tls1 to be appended to the program shortcut.


A fix to address this problem in the Network Management Card 2 (NMC2) and NMC2 enabled devices has been implemented. The release date will be determined on a product by product basis. See below for available updates for NMC2 firmware applications. These updates provide TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 functionality.

 Can this problem be confused with other error messages generated by the Network Management Card?

Yes, a user may receive different error messages relating to SSL/TLS when configuring or accessing their Network Management Card device.  It is imperative that Schneider Electric and the user identify the exact error message that the user is receiving and confirm that it relates to this specific issue, related to SSLv3.0.
