Is it possible to configure a Form 9S 8600/8650 meter as a Form 35S?

        Issue
Customer purchased a ION 8600/8650 with "Form Factor" of 9/29/36S Base and wants to wire as a Form 35S

        Product Line
        ION86xx

        Environment
        Installation and wiring

        Cause
Customer purchased 9s meter for use in form 35S environment

        Resolution
It is possible to configure a form 9S ION 8600/8650 meter as a form 35S, but a form 35S cannot be converted into a 9S since
the form 35S meter does not have a blade for I2 connection.

Following the diagrams below, the meters connection terminals can be rewired to match.

The 9S meter is normally configured as bellow to accept a 3 Element 4Wire-Wye system.
As you can see, the blade inputs are used to accept the I1/I2/I3 & V1/V2/V3/Vref inputs for the 9S. A 35S meter only uses I1/I3 & V1/V3/Vref to meter the Delta system.

The 9S can be modified easily to simulate the 35S measurement structure as below:

This can be done by modifying your 9S base meter wiring as the image below:

The meter's Volts mode configuration setting, found in the Basic Setup Parameters, needs to be changed to 35S 3-Wire instead of 9S 4-Wire.
The firmware is the same for all types of form factors hence, it is not required to change the firmware.

Should the EGX300 stop logging a device after an error occurs?

        Issue
An EGX continues to log a device despite the User Guide suggesting it should stop after a missed interval.

        Product Line
        EGX300 Gateway Device

        Environment
        EGX Data Log

        Resolution
The table containing 'Error Codes for Data Logs' in the User Guide (pg. 39) states "Logging is left enabled unless the last interval was missed" for error codes 19 and 25. This suggests that the EGX should stop logging data from a device after an error appears. However, as seen in the image below, an error is observed more than once and the device continues to be logged.

Since the EGX300 is an obsolete device, it is unlikely the User Guide will be updated. This article will serve as a correction for the EGX300 User Guide's wording.

What is the explanation of the Parameter FLC1 in TeSys T.

FLC1 is the parameter to enter the Motor nominal current in TeSys T. In this parameter, the Motor nominal current is entered as a percentage of the rated value of the TeSys T.

        Example:

For TeSys T of range 8Amps (LTMR08) and a motor of 2 Amps nominal current, you have to set the FLC1 value to 25% because the Motor nominal current is 25% of the full load current of TeSys T Module (LTMR08).

This means that the current in register 466 (value of current in percent) take the value of 100% when you reach 25% of the current of the TeSys T Module rated current value.

What is the difference between 29S and 36S volts mode in ION8650?

        Issue
ION8650 socket meters have a volts mode for 29S and 39S.  When looking at the wiring diagrams in the installation guide they look identical.

        Product Line
        ION8650

        Environment
        ION8650 socket meters

        Resolution
On socket meters, the volts mode modifies the reference spades for each measured quantity.
IE which quantity, V1, V2, V3, I1, etc... is connected to which input terminal of the meter.

The picture below shows the difference between each socket and the corresponding volts mode. This is all dependant upon physical connection and the base socket installed.
Please note the information in the picture notes that a 9S base can function as any of these 3 volt modes depending upon your physical connections to the base.

ETSNZ - How can we use the M221 to read UINT32 and FLOAT32 data types out of a Power meter PM5300?

        Symptoms:
        • If you use the READ_VAR at address 130 with quantity = 1 you will get an error : CommError = 254 and OperError = 3.
        • If you change the quantity = 2 you will still get the same error : CommError = 254 and OperError = 3: You will get the high order byte in %MW130 = 0 and lower order byte in %MW131 = 0.
The general register list for the Power meters gives you the Jbus addressing registers and not the Modbus addressing registers.
Jbus addressing starts a n and the Modbus addressing then should be n -1.
        • If you now use the READ_VAR at address 129 (n -1) with quantity = 1 you will get the same error : CommError = 254 and OperError = 3.
        • If you change the quantity = 2 life is good: You will get the high order byte in %MW130 = xxxx and lower order byte in %MW131 = xxx.

Is it possible to modify the ratio of a current transformer (CT)?

        Product Line
        3090SCCT

        Environment
        CT Ratio

        Resolution
*Warning: Installation and maintenance of this device should only be performed by qualified, competent personnel that have appropriate training and experience with high voltage and current devices. Failure to follow the instructions / warnings in the Meter Installation Guide can result in permanent damage to the meter, severe injury or death.

Note: This is not a suggested solution. It is recommended that the appropriate CTs be purchased for each application.

The ratio assigned to a current transformer is based on the assumption that the primary conductor will only pass through the current transformer opening once. It is possible to reduce the rating by looping the primary conductor through the opening multiple times. The rating will be reduced by the times the primary conductors is looped through the CT. For example, a CT with the rating of 400:5A will be changed to 100:5A if four loops or turns are created by passing the primary conductor through the CT four times. See illustration and table below.

The ratio of the current transformer can also be modified by changing the number of secondary turns by either passing the secondary lead forward or backward through the current transformer opening.

        Ip / Is = Ns / Np

        Ip = primary amperage
        Is = secondary amperage
Ns = number of secondary turns
Np = number of primary turns

        400p / 5s = 80s / 1p

Note: One turn is dropped from the secondary as a ratio correction factor.

By adding secondary turns, while keeping the primary amperage the same will result in greater secondary output. For example, using the 400:5A current transformer, by adding 5 secondary turns it will now require 425 amps on the primary to maintain the 5 amp secondary output.

        400p / 5s = 80s / 1p
        Xp / 5s = 85s / 1p , where Xp equals the primary amperage.
Solving for Xp gives a requirement of 425 amps on the primary.

Similarly, subtracting 5 secondary turns will now require 375 amps on the primary to maintain the 5 amp secondary output.

        400p / 5s = 80s / 1p
        Xp / 5s = 75s / 1p , where Xp equals the primary amperage.
Solving for Xp gives a requirement of 375 amps on the primary.
