How can I power up an iEM3000 series meter?

The iEM3000 series meter documentation does not explicitly specify where and how control power is brought to the meter.

The iEM3000 series meters derive control power through the meter's phase voltage inputs V1, V2, V3, and Vn.  The installation guide for the iEM3000 contains wiring diagrams for different voltage systems.  The meters support the direct power Voltage (L-L) 3 x 100/173 V AC to 3 x 277/480 V AC (50/60 Hz) and the direct current measurement up to 63 A or 125 A.

Energy Meter Installation

The installation guide for the Energy meter does not contain instructions on wiring the meter to monitor multiple loads.

*Warning: Installation and maintenance of this device should only be performed by qualified, competent personnel that have appropriate training and experience with high voltage and current devices. Failure to follow the instructions / warnings in the Meter Installation Guide can result in permanent damage to the meter, severe injury or death. 

The Energy meter is calibrated with the set of CTs that are included with the meter, however the Energy Meter can be installed with up to three sets of parallel CTs to monitor multiple loads. When wiring multiple current transformers in parallel to the Energy Meter, all voltages corresponding to the individual loads must be the same voltage values and must be from the same source. The voltage applied to the inputs of the Energy Meter will be used in the power calculations. Monitoring different voltage values and monitoring the same voltage values from different sources will both cause the power calculations to be inaccurate.

For example, if load A has a system voltage type of 120/208 VAC, and load B has a system voltage type of 277/480 VAC, an Energy Meter cannot be used to measure both loads in a parallel configuration. Likewise, if Load A and Load B both have a system voltage type of 120/208 VAC, but are supplied their respective voltage from different transformers, an Energy Meter cannot be used to measure both loads in a parallel configuration.

Note: When multiple sets of CTs are connected in parallel to the Energy Meter, the accuracy drops from less than 1% to between 1%-3%.

Please follow the guidelines in the attached addendum for selecting and installing the parallel CTs on an Energy meter.

Summary Mode for Raw Historic Traces

Summary Mode for raw historic traces is designed to help your system avoid performance issues that can occur when traces have high numbers of values. It works by allowing you to define a Point Limit, which sets the maximum number of values that can be represented by a trace (for a Trend’s time range).

If the Point Limit is exceeded, ClearSCADA automatically adjusts the trace so that it uses processed historic data instead of raw historic data. This results in a trace that shows a reasonable amount of values and is responsive (a high number of values on a trace can cause slow performance).

The summary trace will be marked by (*) as shown :

For example, if you set the Point Limit to 2000, it means the trace can show up to 2000 values on a single interval (that is, the trace can represent up to 2000 values shown on screen at any one time).

If the trace has 2300 values to show, ClearSCADA automatically sets the trace to use processed historic data with an interval of Per Pixel. As a result, the Trend covers the same time range but shows fewer values on the trace. As the values on the trace are now processed, they are not the actual reported values; they are calculated values.
When ClearSCADA has to display a Trend in Summary Mode, it sets the trace to:
  • use processed historic data instead of raw historic data
  • use an Interval type of Per Pixel.
  • use an Algorithm of Max for Bar traces or Min and Max for Step and Line traces. When Min and Max are used, the trace plots the minimum and maximum processed values for each resample interval.

How to configure a custom property field in ClearSCADA and Geo SCADA?

In the example below we have 2 areas with 2 wells in each area. Our custom property field is going to be a string field that will be populated with the correct Area name. This custom field could be used by Logic, SQL queries, OPC clients, alarm banner and embedded alarm lists and mimics.
  • Right click the root object in the database tree and select Edit Metadata. The following window should appear: 
  • Click the Add button and select Standard. A new window should be displayed as below. Populate Field Name - it is recommended to use a unique prefix at the beginning of your field name. Leave Section as Configuration and leave the Show on Form checkbox checked to be able to see this custom field in the point's properties. In this particular example, Table is set to CDBPoint since we only want the new custom field applied to point objects. If there is a desire to use this field in any database object, the CDBObject table will need to be selected instead. We will set the Row to 1 and the column to   Set Type as String and define its length - we will use 32 character long strings in this particular example. Hit the OK button once done   
  • You should end up with similar configuration. It is also a good practice to configure a label for your custom field to appear beside it in the properties. Click the Labels tab to do that. 
  • Once in the Labels tab, click the add button and configure a new label similar to the one below. Please note it is important to make sure it also uses CDBPoint as its table. In order for the label to appear beside your custom field, make sure the Row is set to 1 and the Column is also set to 1. Unlike with fields, it is possible to use spaces when configuring labels: 
  • Click the OK button once done and click the OK button on the Edit Metadata window. Your custom field is now created! Open properties for any point and you should see a new tab called Point and your custom metadata field labeled as Area Name.   
  • Populate this new custom property field for all your points. In this example, we will add Area 1 or Area 2 to the appropriate points.
  • The below image shows how these custom properties can be displayed by an embedded list through a SQL query. The example of the SQL query is also provided:
