What is alarm 47 on the Series 2000 Circuit Monitor (CM2000)?

Issue:
A CM2000 series circuit monitor is displaying alarm code 47 on the front display.

Product Line:
CM2000 Series Circuit Monitor

Environment:
Onboard Alarms

Cause:
Alarm code 47 is defined as "Suspended Sag/Swell". The alarm is to identify an excessive number of Sag/Swell events being generated on the meter.

An "excessive number" of Sag/Swell events is defined as:
More than 48 events total from all Sag/Swell Alarms in any 500ms period, or more than 6 events from any single Sag/Swell Alarm in any 500ms period.

Alarm code 47 is active when event 47 is true which occurs when register 2038 on the meter is not equal to zero.  If the user disables alarm 47 without clearing Register 2038, the alarm will immediately be re-enabled and asserted as true.

Resolution:
To clear alarm 47, write a 0 to register 2038.

To learn how to read and write registers using the front panel of the CM2000 series meter, please refer to KB article FA211912

Smart-UPS Stacking Height Limitations

This document describes the acceptable stacking configurations of Smart-UPS products.  To achieve the minimum possible footprint, these products can be stacked following the guidelines below. It is important to consider the effect of extra weight on any raised floor environments.

SU Products:

The UPS and batteries can be stacked 25.5"" high. Possible configurations include:

3 SU48XLBPs stacked together
1 SU2200XL on bottom, 1 SU48XLBP on top

SURT Products:

1KVA to 10KVA SURT units are not designed to be stacked, but rather should be connected in a tower configuration as indicated in the users manual.
15KVA and 20KVA units may be stacked to a total height of not more than 18U, which would be a main UPS enclosure and 2 battery enclosures.

How can the JIC symbol drawing file for ProWORX be modified with AutoCad

Goals and Symptoms

How can the JIC symbol drawing file for ProWORX be modified with AutoCad

Facts and Changes

If the drawing is saved as a .dwg file after editing it with AutoCad, ProWORX is not be able to see the file when the IO drawing is generated.

Causes and Fixes

ProWORX 32 and ProWORX NxT IO generator drawings are .dxf exported drawing. These drawings can be edited for custom additions using AutoCad.

Autocad allows the drawing to be saved as an older (i.e., 'AUTOCAD 2004, DXF (dxf)', 'R12/LT2 DXF (dxf)' file format). The DXF format must be used to save the drawing. If the drawing is saved as a .DWG file, ProWORX will not be able to see the file because it is looking for a .dxf file.

To save the drawing in AutoCad 2005, click on File\Save and selected 'AutoCAD R12 DXF' as the format.

To save the drawing in AutoCad R1, click on File\Export and selected 'AutoCAD R14 DXF' as the format.

Power Monitoring Expert 8.2 - In a new install, when the PME installer tries to install SQL Server Express, I see the error 'Database server has no response'

The Power Monitoring Expert 8.2 installer uses SQL Server Express 2014. If the target server already has a SQL Server Express 2016 instance installed, the PME installer will still provide the option 'Install SQL Server Express on this computer', however it will attempt to install SQL Server Express 2014.

Microsft SQL Server 2016 does not support any previous versions of SQL Server side by side on the same syste, which causes the attempt to install SQL Server Express 2014 to fail with an error dialog that says:

'Database server has no response'.

Our recommendation is to use the SQL Server Express 2016 instance that is already installed, or manually install a new ION instance of SQL Server Express 2016.

See the following link for more information on Microsoft restrictions on SQL Server versions on the same machine.

How do I hardwire 10kva and 20kva transformers in a 208/120 or 240/120 environment

Issue:
Implementing a hardwire stepdown transformer in a 208v or 240v environment

Product Line:

Smart-UPS / Symmetra

Environment:

APTF10KT01, APTF10KW01, and APTF20KW01, All Serial Numbers

Cause:

Unbalanced UPS outputs require a stepdown transformer to power 120v loads

Resolution:

This document refers to installing  the APTF10KT01, APTF10KW01, and APTF20KW01 transformers in a North American 120/240 or 120/208 environment. For installations in other regions please consult the users manual.

The wiring block outputs are as follows:

For domestic use, make sure that the Terminal Block Jumper is installed between the Ground Terminal and Terminal 8 on the output wiring block, as illustrated on page 8 of the user manual. Please also make sure that the input voltage switch is in the correct position.

The step-down transformer provides 240/120 output as 2 120v hots, a neutral, and a ground. It provides 208v output as a 120v hot, an 88v hot, and a ground. The 120v hot (terminal  7) and the 88v hot (terminal 9) are 180 degrees out of phase. You will measure 208v from terminals 7 to 9. The step-down transformer is not able to provide 2 120v hots that are 120 degrees out of phase as you would see with utility power.

Note: If your installation requires both 208v and 120v output power you will need 2 separate subpanels: a 240v/120v panel and a dedicated 208v subpanel.

How do I know which battery to replace in my SURT15K or SURT20K UPS?

Issue:

How do I know which battery to replace in my SURT15K or SURT20K UPS?

Product Line:

Smart-UPS Online

Environment:

All 15Kva and 20Kva models, All Serial Numbers

Cause:

Batteries in a Smart-UPS need to be replaced every 3-5 years based on useage and environment.

Resolution:

When the UPS alerts you that it has a bad battery, the red LED on the affected battery frame will illuminate. The UPS does not monitor the individual battery modules and is unable to tell you exactly which pair(s) of modules is bad. You should walways replace all of the modules in a frame at the same time. Each frame uses (Qty 4) APCRBC140 Replacement Battery Cartridges. Each APCRBC140 contains 2 modules, for a total of 8 modules in each battery frame. If you have other attached frames of a similar vintage, it is likely that they will need to be replaced as well. We do not reccomend mixing old and new batteries in the same UPS. On average your batteries should last 3-5 years. Environment and application can have a dramatic affect on the life cycle of your batteries.

Note: The replacement battery for these models used to be RBC44. This model battery was replaced with part number APCRBC140. Runtime and battery life is exactly the same for both model batteries.

How to determine the firmware version of CM2000 series meters via Front Panel or remotely by software

Issue
The customer needs to determine the current firmware version of a Circuit Monitor 2000 either via front panel or over comms remotely by software.

Product line
CM2000 Series meters:
CM2050
CM2150
CM2250
CM2350
CM2450

Environment
Firmware version verification

Cause
The meter may not have the latest firmware version 17.011 (fix for rapid energy accumulation on pervious versions of firmware)

Resolution

Via Software:
If CM2000 software is connected to an Ethernet Gateway unit such as EGX or ECC, a Modbus TCP/IP program (like Modscan) or Modbus "Tester" could be used to determine the firmware version over comms.

1- Read register 2094. This register has a 4 digit number. The two digits on the right in the 4-digit decimal value represent the circuit monitor firmware version (e.g. the decimal value of register 2094 is "1617", the firmware version is 17.XXX).
2- Then read register 2093. This decimal value represents the circuit monitor firmware sub-revision level (e.g. the decimal value of register 2093 is "9", the firmware version and sub-revision is 17.009).

To download "Tester" software, you may refer to article FA180037

Via front panel:
The version of firmware in the CM2 can be determined by using the Configuration option of the Setup Mode. The Configuration option allows the user to view configuration data in Protected Mode. No changes to CM2 configuration can be saved when in Protected Mode. When entering the Configuration option in Protected Mode, the CM2 will cycle through four screens of device information. This information will contain the firmware version currently resident in the CM2. It also contains the device model number and the last four digits of the device serial number.

PROCEDURE: To view configuration data, complete the following steps:
1. Press the MODE button until the red LED next to [Setup] is lit. The circuit monitor displays ConFig.
2. Press the PHASE [Enter] button. The circuit monitor displays the password prompt P - - - -.
3. Enter 9999 for the password. To enter 9999, use the SELECT METER [Value] buttons to decrease the displayed value until it reaches 9999. Then press the PHASE [Enter] button. The circuit monitor enters the protected viewing mode and scrolls through the following device information:

  • d=2450 (the number after d= represents the device model number)
  • s=0345 (the numbers following s= represent the last four digits of the device serial number)
  • r=1617 (the first two digits after r= represent the reset code revision and the last two digits represent the circuit monitor firmware revision level
  • L=0009 (the digits following 1= represent the circuit monitor firmware sub-revision level, as in firmware version 17.0009)

After this scrolling sequence, the display shows the present CT ratio.

The instructions are also in the attached POWERLOGIC/POWERLINK TECH SUPPORT Application Tip document.

I am not able to operate my Smart Plug on wiserenergy.com.

Issue:
Customer can not operate the Wiser switch devices on the Wiser web portal.  This problem can apply to any of the 3 switch devices: smart plug, load control relay, large load controller.

Product Line:
Wiser Home Management System
Smart Plugs:  EER41200, EER40200
Load Control Relay:  EER42300,  EER42200
Large Load Relay:  EER260LLCR

Environment:
https://www.wiserenergy.com

Cause:
First, all Wiser devices that measure energy must be added to the home's Wiser network.  Next, the home owner must subscribe to either the Smart Energy Plus or Smart Energy Premium Service Plans.    Switch Device control is not included in the Smart Energy Basic Plan.  Finally, these switch devices which also measure the load attached to them must be must be configured as sub-meters of the main meter.

Resolution:
1.  Confirm that the device has been added to your Wiser network.  On wiserenergy.com, go to the Settings tab.  Click on Device list and located the device of question.  If it is not in the Device List, then add the device.
2.  Confirm that your account is Smart Energy Plus or Premium level.   There is no way at this time (January 2014) to check this on wiserenergy.com.   Wiser Technical support can check the customer service plan level.  If the user's needs to update his service plan, then Wiser Technical Support must delete the User's Account.  The User must then re-register his Gateway and recreate the home Wiser network.
3.  Finally, configure the switch device to be a sub-meter of the main meter.  This task can be accomplished in 2 different ways.   On the wiserenergy.com Settings Tab, Device List, after a switch device or second power monitor is added to the Wiser Network, then a link for Advanced Meter Settings should appear in the lower right corner of the page.    Use the Advance Meter Settings to set the main meter as the upstream or parent meter of the switch device.   The other way to do this same task is on the Energy Screen, under Settings & Bill Information, there will be a Manage Energy Device section.   Use that section to program the switch device as a submeter of the main device.

More information about how to use the Wiser Home Management System may be found in a series of video tutorials published on sub meter.  Link to the the entire playlist of tutorials here.    Video #2, Adding and Controlleing Devices most closely pertains to this topic.   Click here to go to Video #2.

How to identify and update outdated Statistics in SQL Server

Issue
A user may be experiencing performance issues when running SQL queries.

Product Line
StruxureWare Power Monitoring 7.0.x
Power Monitoring Expert 7.2.x, 8.x
ION Enterprise 6.0.x
ION EEM

Environment
SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2014, SQL Server 2016

Cause
Outdated statistics can make the SQL server choose a non-optimal execution plan causing undesirable slow response times for certain queries.

Resolution
*Warning: Irreparable database damage can occur. This procedure should only be performed by users familiar with SQL Server Management Studio. Databases should be backed up prior to performing this procedure.*

To identify tables within the database which have outdated statistics, the following query can be used.

SELECT OBJECT_NAME(id) AS Table ,st.[name] AS Tnaam, si.name,
              STATS_DATE(id, indid) AS DateLastUpdate,rowmodctr rowsModifiedSinceLastUpdate
FROM sys.sysindexes AS si
INNER JOIN sys.[tables] AS st ON si.[id] = st.[object_id]
INNER JOIN sys.schemas AS ss ON st.[schema_id] = [ss].[schema_id]
WHERE STATS_DATE(id, indid)<=DATEADD(DAY,-1,GETDATE())
AND rowmodctr>10
ORDER BY[rowmodctr] DESC

Once you have identified tables with outdated statistics, the UPDATE STATISTICS  statement can be used to
bring the statistics back up to date.
