After a graceful shutdown by PowerChute, Windows 2003, 2008, or 2012 system fails to turn on when utility power is restored.

Issue:
After a graceful shutdown by PowerChute,  Windows 2003, 2008, or 2012 system fails to turn on when utility power is restored.

Product:
PowerChute Network Shutdown
PowerChute Business Edition

Environment:
Windows 2003, 2008, 2012

Cause:
After a graceful shutdown by PowerChute Network Shutdown or PowerChute Business Edition, the server fails to turn on when utility power is restored. Due to changes in the power management feature in Microsoft® Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, some servers with an ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) BIOS will not turn on when utility power is restored after an outage. The following is an example of what may occur:

1. A server is attached to an APC UPS and running PowerChute Network Shutdown or PowerChute Business Edition. PowerChute Network Shutdown or PowerChute Business Edition is configured to shut down the operating system when the UPS has been on battery for a specific time.

2. When the utility power fails, causing the on-battery event, PowerChute Network Shutdown or PowerChute Business Edition commands the operating system to shut down gracefully.

3. Because ACPI power management is controlled by the operating system rather than by the BIOS, when the operating system completes its graceful shutdown, it commands the server to turn off.

4. The UPS remains on battery until its shutdown delay time has expired. When utility power is restored, the UPS provides power; the server does not turn on.

Solution:

Upgrade the OS to include the latest Microsoft service pack.

Power Monitoring Expert 7.2 - After upgrade to PME 7.2 I can't run or edit my saved RepGen reports

Issue
When editing or saving a report in Repgen you will see a “Connection failed” screen like the following:

Manually entering the "Report" login with password "rep0rter!" allows you to edit the report.  However, the next time you edit the same report, Reporter will prompt you for the same connection information.

Also, you will see an “*ERROR* Error 3704” message in Reporter when you try to run a report that had been previously saved.

You will see this issue if you upgraded to PME 7.2 from older versions of the software (e.g. SPM 7.0, SPM 7.0.1) and kept the same SQL Server instance and ION databases in place.

Product Line
Power Monitoring Expert 7.2.x

Environment
Repgen, Reporter

Cause
The password for the “Report” login that is used to connect to SQL Server in order to retrieve data for Reporter reports has changed.  As a result, when upgrading to PME 7.2 from a previous version of the software, you will see errors when trying to edit or generate previously-saved reports

Resolution
Change the “Report” login password in SQL Server to “rep0rter!”  This will allow all new reports generated in PME 7.2 to run properly.  You will be able to edit reports without the Connection Info dialog popping up.

If you are using reports from your previous version of the software in PME 7.2, you will also have to edit them manually to change the stored login information to “Report”/ “rep0rter!”

  • Open the report in Excel.
  • Unhide the |PRIVATE|Datasheets worksheet.
    • Excel 2003:
      • From the menu, choose Format -> Sheet -> Unhide.
    • Excel 2007 / 2010:
      • Right-click on any sheet and choose “Unhide” from the popup menu that appears.
      • Choose the |PRIVATE|Datasheets sheet and click OK.
  • Ensure the USERID and PASSWORD columns contain "Report" and "rep0rter!"
  • After making the changes, hide the sheet |PRIVATE|Datasheets again.
    • Excel 2003:
      • Select the sheet.
      • From the menu, choose Format -> Sheet -> Hide.
    • Excel 2007 / 2010:
      • Right-click on the sheet and choose “Hide” from the popup menu that appears.
  • Save and close the file.

The report can now be edited and generated without issues.

How to power a Xantrex System Control Panel when no XW+ or SW is present?

How many simultaneous Webreach Connections can access the Server?

For non-server operating systems (IE: WinXP) 10 Webreach connections can be gathering data.
For Server Class operating systems (IE: Windows Server 2003) the number of connections is only limited to BandWidth. So effectively unlimited connections can be made.

What is the standard of PoE (Power over Ethernet) adopted on EGX devices?

Product Line
EGX100
EGX300

Resolution
The Power over Ethernet (PoE), IEEE802.3af, is deployed on the EGX100 and EGX300 devices.

The IEEE 802.3af PoE standard (ratified June, 2003) provides up to 15.4 W of DC power at 44~57 V DC (though the nominal voltage is 48 V) and 10~350 mA to each device.
Only 12.95 W is assured to be available at the powered device as some power is dissipated in the cable.

There is another new version for PoE, IEEE802.3at-2009, sometimes called "POE+", (ratified September 11, 2009), provides up to 25 W of power. Except the Power Output, the voltage and current output are the same as IEE 802.3af. As of 7/1/2015 the EGX only supports IEEE802.3af.

On the Altivar drives, in CiA402 profile, what sequence is written to run drive in Reverse?

Issue:
On the Altivar drives, in CiA402 profile, what sequence is written to run drive in Reverse?

Product LIne:
Altivar drives with serial communication control in CiA-402 (Drivecom) Mode of operation.

Environment:
All current production models with the exception of the ATV212 series, all serial numbers

Cause:
To issue a run command forward in CiA402 profile, you must write the sequence 6,7,15 to the command word.  What sequence should be written to run reverse?

Resolution:
In order to run, Bits 0-3 must be all high, this translates to decimal value of 15.  Bit 11 of the control word determines the direction of the the drive.  When bits 0,1,2,3 are high  (decimal 15) the drive runs in Forward direction.  When bits 0,1,2,3,11 are high (decimal 2063) the drive runs in Reverse direction.

What is alarm 47 on the Series 2000 Circuit Monitor (CM2000)?

Issue:
A CM2000 series circuit monitor is displaying alarm code 47 on the front display.

Product Line:
CM2000 Series Circuit Monitor

Environment:
Onboard Alarms

Cause:
Alarm code 47 is defined as "Suspended Sag/Swell". The alarm is to identify an excessive number of Sag/Swell events being generated on the meter.

An "excessive number" of Sag/Swell events is defined as:
More than 48 events total from all Sag/Swell Alarms in any 500ms period, or more than 6 events from any single Sag/Swell Alarm in any 500ms period.

Alarm code 47 is active when event 47 is true which occurs when register 2038 on the meter is not equal to zero.  If the user disables alarm 47 without clearing Register 2038, the alarm will immediately be re-enabled and asserted as true.

Resolution:
To clear alarm 47, write a 0 to register 2038.

To learn how to read and write registers using the front panel of the CM2000 series meter, please refer to KB article FA211912
To learn about other CM2000 alarm codes, please refer to the KB article FA218966.

Smart-UPS Stacking Height Limitations

This document describes the acceptable stacking configurations of Smart-UPS products.  To achieve the minimum possible footprint, these products can be stacked following the guidelines below. It is important to consider the effect of extra weight on any raised floor environments.

SU Products:

The UPS and batteries can be stacked 25.5"" high. Possible configurations include:

3 SU48XLBPs stacked together
1 SU2200XL on bottom, 1 SU48XLBP on top

SURT Products:

1KVA to 10KVA SURT units are not designed to be stacked, but rather should be connected in a tower configuration as indicated in the users manual.
15KVA and 20KVA units may be stacked to a total height of not more than 18U, which would be a main UPS enclosure and 2 battery enclosures.

How to run the inverter when one of the matrices might have an issue?

Issue:
Ground fault fuse blown, fault 0033.

Product Line:
GT250

Environment:

Cause:
One of the matrices might have a short.

Resolution:
You need to isolate the matrices to see which one is bad.
Step 1. Turn the inverter ON\OFF switch to Off.
Step 2. Hit the menu button and then hit enter. It will ask for a password. Type in 594 and hit enter. Press the up arrow button on the keypad until the display shows I PPT Max %. Once there, hit the enter button and type in 50 instead of 100. Then press enter. Press the up arrow button once and then the down arrow once to confirm the I PPT Max % is in fact 50.
Step 3. Remove the DC input cables to the cap bank (left matrix) and all 6 orange cables from the left matrix. Tie wrap these cables so that they do not touch each other or anything on the inverter.
Step 4. Run the inverter by turning the ON\OFF switch to ON.
Step 5. If the ground fault fuse is blown, replace the fuse and put all the cables back on the left matrix. Repeat this process on the right matrix. If the ground fault fuse is not blown then it is possible that the left matrix or the left inductors have an issue.
Step 6. Call 866-519-1470 selection option 3 and 3 and open a new case. Tell the technical support person what you have checked so far.
