How to do scaling in LXM32?

To set scaling, you need to set scale numerator and denominator in SoMove or these parameters can be written through CAN.
By default, as you can see in the screenshot from SoMove, 1 revolution corresponds to 16384 (resolution of encoder) user units. So, for example, if one revolution correspond to 100 mm, than ScalePOSdenom has to be set to 100. Similar for velocity and ramp (acceleration).

Devices Will Not Be Discovered If Timeout is Longer Than 60 Seconds in ISX Central

Product Line:

StruxureWare Central / Data Center Expert

Environment:

StruxureWare Central / Data Center Expert version 7.0 and earlier.

Cause:

TIncorrect documentation.

Resolution:

If the SNMP timeout value is more than 60 seconds, the InfraStruXure Central server will fail to discover devices, even if the timeout and retry values are reduced.

The discovery entry must be deleted and a new one created in order for the devices to be discovered.

This should no longer be an issue with the release of StruxureWare Central 7.2.x.

Lost Password Recovery Procedure for an InfraStruXure Manager

Please follow these steps in order to reset the password on ISX Manager (Information Controller) version 1.3.4 and earlier:

1) Connect a laptop to the InfraStruXure Manager Hub and make sure it is assigned an IP.

The “Generic Modbus” application does not provide status bits values in binary

Issue:
The “Generic Modbus” application does not provide status bits values in binary

Product line:
Generic Modbus Application or Similar application

Environment:
Generic Modbus Application or Similar application

Cause:
The “Generic Modbus” application does not provide status bits values in binary

Resolution:
Take the value provided by the application and convert it to binary by using a calculate like the one provided by Windows.  If using the Windows calculator, you may have to change the calculator to scientific or Programmer mode to accomplish this conversion.
Below is a couple of examples from a Galaxy VX:
Example 1:  Register 400002 (16385)
16385 in BIN 100 000 0000 0001
This example has 14 bits and to get to 16 bits two zeros were added to the left (red text)
10 0000 0000 0001 is 0010 0000 0000 0001

Example 2:  Register 400010 (512)
512 in BIN 10 0000 0000
This example has 10 bits so six bits needs to be added to the left (red text)
10 0000 0000 is 000 0010 0000 0000

How do I Monitor Analog Input Over-Under Range conditions on a SCADAPack 350?

Only the Scadapack models 314, 334 and 357 (only AI on the 5606 Lower IO board) have register assignments that monitor the out-of-range status for analog inputs.

The only way to monitor if an analog input has failed, would be to monitor the raw input and look for a zero or full scale value.

For a SP350 using a 5V/20mA register assignment and a 4-20mA input:
The screnshot below shows logic that scales the raw value of input 30001 to produce a scaled value in register 40110 (in mA)

With the 5V/20mA register assignment, a count of 32767 will appear when seeing a full scale value or an out of range value. In either scenario, the mA reading will never go above 20mA which is why the threshold has been set to 19.99mA.

For a SP350 using a 10V/40mA register assignment and a 4-20mA input:

The screnshot below shows logic that scales the raw value of input 30001 to produce a scaled value in register 40110 (in mA)

With the 10V/40mA register assignment, register 30001 can now measure beyond 20mA so it is now possible to tell a full scale value apart from an out of range value. Full scale 20mA now corresponds to a raw input value of 16384. The logic is looking for an out of range condition when it sees 20.01mA or greater.

Communication loss in the System Manager Software (error 513) for device(s) downstream of a CM4 with an ECC21 card

Goals and Symptoms

Issue
Communications will drop out for devices on the serial port of an ECC card housed in a CM3/4 and come back on the next health check, data upload, or with a communication test (i.e. there is no loss of data). The error with the communication loss is 513 which is defined as"negative acknowledgement"

Causes and Fixes

Cause

This is is generally a wiring issue where someone will have to "ring out" or check the wiring on the daisy chain for continuity; however the problem may be solved by cycling power to the ECC21. An easy way to cycle power to the ECC21 is to do a soft reset to the meter.

Resolution

Perform a soft rest on the meter by enabling an unused data log on the CM3/4. Whenever a change is made to a data log the CM4 reset itself which, in turn, reboots the ECC card. After the initial soft reset, the unused data log can be un-enabled to return the data log to its original state (this will cause another soft reset).

Alternately, a soft reset can be initiated by writing 1110 to register 8000.

NOTE: Since making any changes to a data log clears the data in all of the logs for that meter; do an "execute now" on any tasks that get data from the data logs in the meter before making the changes to the unused data log.

ClearSCADA: displaying the 'bit' values in a Double Word point

Using logic, it is possible to display the individual bit values in a double word point.  This is useful in protocols such as Modbus where bit packing is used to transmit data in low bandwidth systems.  Here is one such example of how the individual bits may be extracted.

1) In this example an internal analog point has been created and named D_WORD to represent a 16-bit point.  Sixteen digital points have been created and named bit0 through bit15.  Along with with is the logic program (function block diagram is used for this example) as well as the mimic.  The tree structure in ViewX looks like this:

2)  In the fbd logic program the analog and digital points are added to the 'Direct' table with the analog point being configured as a DWORD type and the digital points being configured as BOOLEAN types.  The table looks like this:

3) In the fbd logic program a series of AND function blocks act to filter out which weighted values (i.e. 'bits') are true.  From here, the output of each AND function block is sent to a DWORD_TO_BOOL function block to convert the weighted value to a boolean value (0 or 1).  The output of each DWORD_TO_BOOL is then sent to its corresponding digital (bit) point.  The logic looks like this:

4) With the logic program in run mode, the connection values can be displayed so that all values for all points in the program may be seen.  In this case the analog point has been given a value of 15384 and the corresponding digital points are shown as either FALSE or TRUE.

5) On the mimic, the analog point is shown with its value and below it is shown the individual bit values.

6) The logic used in this example may be found in the enclosed q_pull it from word.sde file which is save in ClearSCADA 2014 R1.1 format.  Any version of ClearSCADA from version 2014 R1 or newer may import this .sde file.

IMPORTANT COMMUNICATION REGARDING APC INFORMATION CONTROLLER AND INFRASTRUXURE MANAGER V1.3.X

IMPORTANT COMMUNICATION REGARDING APC INFORMATION CONTROLLER AND INFRASTRUXURE MANAGER V1.3.X

Dear Valued APC Customer,

If you have an APC Information Controller v 1.x or APC InfraStruXure Manager v1.3.x, this urgent message is for you.  A critical update is required immediately to ensure correct operation of your system.

Here are several questions and answers that we hope will shed light on the issue and how to resolve it:

1.             Why is this update necessary?

On July 27th, 2005, a runtime certificate used to validate a third-party component used by the device expired.  As a result, if the appliance reboots for any reason, it may not come back online.  While the product is offline, it will not have the ability to monitor APC equipment and will not send notifications to configured users.

Regrettably, while our development and quality assurance processes are very thorough the certificate expiration was not discovered prior to software release.  This issue is not unique to APC and affects many other companies’ software products, with those products exhibiting a range of symptoms.

2.             Will this affect the APC power equipment being monitored?

No.  The Information Controller and InfraStruXure Manager v1.3.x were designed to monitor APC NCPI equipment and notify users when an event at the device arises.  It will not affect the functionality of the UPS, PDU, ATS, Environmental Monitoring Unit, or Rack PDU in anyway.

3.             What systems are affected?

Information Controller version 1.3.4 or below.               Part number AP92100

InfraStruXure Manager version 1.3.x                                Part number AP92100

4.             How do I know if I am affected?

If the unit says “Information Controller” on the front bezel, you have the affected unit and it should be upgraded immediately.   If the unit says “InfraStruXure Manager” on the front panel,

Log on to the device

Click “Help” menu

Click “About” tab

Look for Software Revision

If it lists version 1.3.4 or below, update the unit immediately

 5.            I have InfraStruXure Manager v4.x, do I need to update my system?

No.  InfraStruXure Manager version 4.x is NOT affected by this problem:

APC Part Number:                AP92200                AP9420(U)             AP9421(U)

AP9422                  AP9423(U)

6.             What assistance is APC offering affected end users?

APC has developed a patch available free of charge on the APC web site.  For further details click here:

CRITICAL UPDATE REQUIRED FOR APC INFORMATION CONTROLLER and INFRASTRUXURE MANAGER version 1.x

For further assistance, please contact the APC Support Center https://www.apc.com/support/contact

5.             How can I ensure that I am notified about similar issues in the future?

Subscribing online to our quarterly software and firmware updates email alerts you to important product releases and enhancements. https://reg.cheetahmail.com/regp?aid=317345315&n=1&a=1

It is also advisable to periodically visit APC's web site to learn about what is happening at APC.

APC regrets any difficulty caused by this issue and is working to tighten our development and release procedures to prevent future issues.  Just as importantly, we are working to develop a more robust means of communicating to our customers the need for software updates to take advantage of patches and improvements as they become available.  With millions of satisfied customers using our software and hardware products, it is more important than ever that we reach them in a timely fashion with important news.

Thanks for your continued association with APC.

Sincerely,

Rob Johnson

PowerSCADA Expert - Maximum number of IODevices of MODNET type

Customer request:
To integrate in the PowerSCADA Expert (PSE) project 400 sets of Ethernet devices which support Modbus TCP protocol.
The question was if all the devices can be integrated to one PSE Server, and the SCADA system is redundant.
In the legacy software version, one IOServer could only have one TCP/IP Board and 255 Ports can be created on that type of Board.
Can we integrate all the devices into one PSE Server? If yes, then how to configure the communication including IO Server, Board, Port and IODevice?

Resolution:
The maximum limit in PowerSCADA software is of 16383 IODevices per project and 4095 simultaneous multiple protocols.
BOARD types have to be unique per IOServer.
You may find reference of the word "Channel" in various documentation resources.
To be clear, PORT = Channel.
PORT number limits are hardcoded into each communication driver.
The TCPIP driver (TCPIP.DLL) supports 512 PORTS per board since DLL version 2.4.4.0, thus MODNET driver (MODNET.DLL) supports 512 PORTS (channels) since driver version 2.6.21.0.

These limits are theoretical limits, in reality there are Kernel Queues that introduce another limitation.
[Kernel]Queue has a max of 5000 (which is also default value), but some drivers like Modnet consume more queues per channel than others.
Modnet consumes 13 Kernel Queues per PORT.
As a result, a 512 hardcoded limit for Modnet PORTs will be downgraded to 300-350 because of these queues.
So, consider the limit at 350 MODNET PORTS per BOARD (per IOServer).
If you use ModbusTCP/RTU Gateways, then you can have thousands of IODevices on the same IOServer, just because for each of the 350 PORTS you could have several different IODevices, with different Addresses (UnitID).
For example: 1 Gateway to collect 5 SEPAMs means: 5 IODevices (5 different IODevice Addresses), 1 PORT (the same PORT that uses Special Options for Gateway's IP address), 1 BOARD (TCPIP).

To overcome the 350 PORTS limit, more IOServers are needed.

Further, another reduction should be made, imposed by the recommended number of IODevices per IOServer.
In the same project, the same Cluster, the same Network Address, the PowerSCADA team recommendation (rule) is: either 50000 tags or 250 IODevices per IOServer. Whichever comes first.
To create another IOServer in the same Cluster and the same Network Address, simply add another IOServer but specify a different Port (this is the Port from the IO Server dialog window).
Doing so, you will need to define different Ports for the extra IOServers: default is 2082, so you may add any unused TCP port: 3082 for second IOServer, 4082 for third IOServer and so on.

Here are some configuration screenshots (using Excel and DBF Add-in) to illustrate the IODevices distribution per IOServers:

How can I test your InRow BMS/ModBus Communications?

Issue:
How can I test your InRow BMS/ModBus Communications?

Product line:
ACRC, ACRP, ACRD, ACSC

Environment:
InRow Cooling

Cause:

Resolution:
When troubleshooting an InRow for correct BMS communication, you need to know how to prove our equipment is passing its signal appropriately. Please use the instructions below to perform this test.

What you will need:
1.     B&B Electronics Converter pn# 4850T9L [A 12vDC power supply is also required for power]
2.    ModScan Software:
       a.    Demo download --    https://www.win-tech.com/html/demos.htm
               i.    Select ModScan32.zip (851K), download, and extract [unzip] to your desktop

Converter Configuration:
You will need to configure the RS-422/485 converter prior to making connections to test the BMS functionality.  Remove the cover opposite the label and please make the configurations listed below
1.    Dip switches: 1,3,4 off; 2,5,6,7,8 on; SD jumper is on; RTS jumper is off [see Figure 1 below]

Figure 1

2.    Wire your 12vDC power supply to TB2.  Red should go to +12vDC and black should go to GND [ground] [see Figure 1].
3.    Wire your BMS connection wires to TB1 TDA(-) and TB1 TDB(+) as shown above.
4.    If you are on site you may connect your wires to the InRow. The wires will be cross polarity.  Therefore, on the converter TDA(-) crosses polarity on the InRow to D1(+) and TDB(+) crosses polarity on the InRow to D0(-)     [see Figure 2 below].

Figure 2

ModScan Configuration:

1.   Click OK – you do not need to fill anything out … this is a demo only mode

2.   When you come to the next 2 screens give the page 10s to load and Click Ok

3.   Select Connection >> Connect >> set appropriate Com port and Configuration [this should be set to whatever the InRow BMS baud rate is set to under Configure Modbus on the display.  8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit are fixed settings on the InRow display].

4.   Next select Setup >> Display Options >> Integer

5.   MODBUS Point Type: needs to be set to 03: HOLDING REGISTER; Address: needs to start on a known register; Length: needs to end on a known register

6.   In the example below we are using an InRow RC.  NOTE there is a It has the 0 and 1 offset option when using ModScan

7.   For any 600mm unit you want to make sure the P2 connection to J84.1-3 are correctly wired.
