How to change the display settings of energy units from MWh to kWh in ME Meter.

Depending on the ME meter version, meter will automatically select the appropriate units and therefore it is not possible to modify the energy units. From 40/5 to 150/5 CT ratio, the energy unit display is KWh and from 200/5 to 6000/5 CT ratio, the energy unit display is MWh.

CT Setting:
To change the CT settings hold down the button on the Front Face of the ME Meter for more than 5 sec when on the CT Rating display. After approximately 5 sec the display will start blinking, now enter the CT setting. Once again hold the button till the display stop flashing, to ensure that the entry is saved.

What does letter 'M' or 'K' represent on front display of ION7300 series meters?

Issue
When reading a value from the front display of an ION 7300 series meter, and 'M' or 'K' is shown in the number. For example, KWh rec value is reading 1M225 as shown below.

Product Line
ION7300 series meter

Cause
The meter display is configure to show more than one parameter and does not have enough space to show all the digits. As a result, the meter rounds up the “1255922.75” to “1M225” or “255940” to “255K9” on display; where M stands for Million and K stands for Killo.

Environment
Meter Front Display

Resolution:
In order to see the all digits, the display can be configured to show only the desired parameter as shown below.

Follow steps below in order to configure meter's display to show only one parameter on screen:
  • Connect to the meter using ION Setup.
  • Switch to the Advanced Mode and navigate to the Display Modules folder.
  • Right click on the Display Module to be configured and remove undesired parameters from the Input tab.

The “Generic Modbus” application does not provide status bits values in binary

Issue:
The “Generic Modbus” application does not provide status bits values in binary

Product line:
Generic Modbus Application or Similar application

Environment:
Generic Modbus Application or Similar application

Cause:
The “Generic Modbus” application does not provide status bits values in binary

Resolution:
Take the value provided by the application and convert it to binary by using a calculate like the one provided by Windows.  If using the Windows calculator, you may have to change the calculator to scientific or Programmer mode to accomplish this conversion.
Below is a couple of examples from a Galaxy VX:
Example 1:  Register 400002 (16385)
16385 in BIN 100 000 0000 0001
This example has 14 bits and to get to 16 bits two zeros were added to the left (red text)
10 0000 0000 0001 is 0010 0000 0000 0001

Example 2:  Register 400010 (512)
512 in BIN 10 0000 0000
This example has 10 bits so six bits needs to be added to the left (red text)
10 0000 0000 is 000 0010 0000 0000

How to read Status bits

Resolution:
Using a Modbus tool like Generic Modbus Tester you receive the values in the two examples below.  The Generic Modbus tester does not provide binary values so the examples below shows the conversion.  If the application used provides binary then keep that part.

Below is the mapping of the bits to the Modbus registers to the Galaxy VX.  You start the with zero on the right and end with 15 on the left.

Example 2:  Register 400010 (512)
512 in BIN 10 0000 0000
This example has 10 bits so six bits needs to be added to the left (red text)
10 0000 0000 is 000 0010 0000 0000

What is the difference between a Transformer's "temperature rise" and its "insulation class"?

Issue:
Explanation of the difference between temperature rise and insulation class specifications.

Product Line:
LV Transformers

Environment:
Applies to Low Voltage Transformers by SquareD/Schneider Electric

Cause:
Transformer Temperature Rise and Insulation Class are two different technical attributes

Resolution:

This question has come up because NEC 450-21(b) requires Transformers larger than 112.5 kVA to be installed in fire resistant construction unless the insulation class is 155 or higher.

The insulation system of a Transformer is rated in degrees Celsius at its maximum temperature rating (the Class number = the degree C of the insulation system; example, a Class 220 insulation system is rated for 220°C) Transformers have either a Class 220 (former designation "H") Class 180 (former designation "F",) Class 150 (former designation "B") or Class 105 (former designation "A") Some smaller manufacturers may also use a Class 200 (former designation "R").

The temperature rise of a Transformer is the average temperature rise that will occur in the coils during normal full load.

The insulation system <> standard temperature rise relationships are:
Class 220 <> 150 degree Celsius rise
Class 180 <> 115 degree Celsius rise
Class 150 <> 80 degree Celsius rise
Class 105 <> 50 degree Celsius rise

A Transformer with a Class 220 insulation system can be designed for a maximum temperature rise that is lower than the standard 150 degree Celsius. It can be designed for either 115 or 80 degree Celsius rise. As well, a Class 180 insulation system Transformer can be designed with 80 degree Celsius rise. Class 150 and 105 transformers are not typically designed for other than their standard temperature rise.

Since all Square D low voltage dry type Transformers larger than 112.5kVA are built with a 220 degree Celsius insulation system, exception #2 under NEC 450-21(b) applies.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue then Try performing SFC scan on the computer.

SFC /scannow is a super-useful command you can use in any Windows version. When the SFC (System File Checker) command is used with the /scannow switch, the tool will scan all of the important Windows files on your computer and replace them as necessary.

Missing and corrupt operating system files (like many DLL files) are arguably the biggest cause of major Windows issues. Considering that, plus the fact that SFC /scannow is completely automatic and very easy to use, the tool should usually be one of your first troubleshooting steps.

1.          Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

2.         Type the following command, and then press ENTER:  sfc /scannow

A message will appear stating that The system scan will begin. Be patient because the scan may take some time

3.         If any files require a replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Win DVD for this process to continue

4.         If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message ""Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations""

5.         After the scan has completed, close the command prompt window, restart the computer.

Note: For more information on System File Checker kindly refer to the Microsoft link below:
