      Maximum recommended discharge level on the batteries used for Symmetra PX 250/500 is 3CA, where CA means the current (Amps) by which the battery is charged or discharged divided by its Amp-hour (Ah) rating.  The 250kW runtime ratio is 10 PMs to 16 battery shelves resulting in a ratio of 1.6 battery shelf per 1 PM.       Resolution: 
      When the Breaker is Off (open) the indicator on the right will be green.
      Push the lever on the left down and ‘Pump’ it until the indicator turns ‘Yellow’ Indicating Charged.
      Once Charged, press the green button to turn the breaker on. The indicator will turn Red indicating the breaker is on.
       
      To turn off, just press the off button.

      Time not updating on UPS when changed on NMC

      Resolution:
      Making changes on the NMC web interface will also make changes on the ups, but the NMC must first be configured for Read/Write in the user configuration settings on the UPS.  Once this is configured making changes on the NMC will update the display on UPS.

      When changing NMC configuration to update Time using NTP, you need to pay attention to the update Interval.  It can be set from 1 to 8760 hours(1 year).  Make sure this is configured as needed.  If time is not immediately updating, click the UPDATE Now box and click apply.  You may need to refresh screen on UPS a couple times to see the change.

      Resolution:



      The battery self-test is used to periodically and automatically test the health of the battery modules in your UPS system. It is an important tool to detect failing batteries and to ensure they receive proper attention.  Battery self-test can be run with a frequency of every week to once a year (typical settings are bi-weekly or monthly).  Your site conditions and UPS load are typical considerations when choosing your battery self-test interval.
       
      The runtime calibration is a manually initiated procedure that helps report the reduced runtime available as batteries age.  This test is not run automatically, as each test is a significant drain on the batteries.  Besides site condition and UPS load, battery age is also an important factor in deciding if and when to run a runtime calibration. At most this test should be run once a year.
       
      Begin at the home screen of the UPS.  


      Press the wrench key at the lower left of the screen.
       
      Press the ‘Configuration’ button. 



      Press the ‘User Configuration’ button.
       
      Enter the user password (apc by default)



      Press ‘Battery Test Settings’



      Your battery charge must be at least 50% for a battery self test, 100% for a runtime calibration.  When finished reading, hit the back arrow at the top left of the screen

      Cause:

      The AP9635/AP9635CH Network Management Card 2 (NMC2) is restricted for use with the Symmetra PX 250/500 UPS and other select UPS models. Additionally, before upgrading the firmware for the Management Card when installed in a, you must make sure that the firmware upgrade is compatible with the firmware level that is running on the UPS system (its MIM, PM, etc) . For example, as described in the chart below, a Management Card running v5.0.0 firmware cannot support a UPS with system firmware 4.1.x.x unless the Management Card is upgraded to the SYPX APP v5.0.1 firmware. To obtain the firmware upgrade files for the Management Card, you must contact Technical Support.


      Alternatively, the UPS System firmware can be updated to support a Management Card with newer firmware.

      Note: The UPS system firmware upgrade can only be performed by a Field Service Engineer.


      Resolution:

      Review the chart below to make sure the Management Card is running firmware that is compatible with the UPS. To view the UPS System firmware and NMC APP firmware versions from the UPS touchscreen display, press the Firmware Overview button in the System Information menu. The APP firmware version of the Management Card is also displayed in its Web interface, under the Administration->General->About menu.

      Cause:
      The question is often asked, is it OK to replace the individual batteries inside the battery modules/units or use refurbished battery modules in my UPS?
       

      Resolution:
      The answer is: No, we strongly discourage this practice, due to the following reasons. 
       
      -  New Battery Modules are factory assembled using new batteries, wires, terminals and Battery Management PCB.  Once assembled, the batteries are voltage and load tested to validate all batteries, connections, and communication.
       
      -  The connectors in these battery modules are designed for one time use only.  Disconnecting and reconnecting them damages the locking mechanism and can loosen the terminal causing loose, overheated connections, or short circuits. 
       
      -  There is a Battery Management PCB in each module that is factory set based on the manufacturer and model of battery.  This information is used by the UPS to identify the type of battery, measure voltage, current, and temperature.  It uses the information to adjust the charging level, calculate run time, or fault a defective battery.  This PCB is not reprogrammable.
       
      -  Reconditioned battery modules may not communicate with the UPS.  This could impair system operation causing fault alarms in the UPS, or a load drop due to DC Voltage Collapse.
       
      -  Schneider does not provide support for third party / refurbished batteries.  If we dispatch to troubleshoot faults that occur because of refurbished batteries, the visit would be billable regardless of contract or warranty status on the UPS or Battery frame.
       
      -  Unauthorized modification of a component assembly voids the system UL/IEC/CE rating / listings. As such in the USA, it could also be a OSHA violation in case of injury. 
       
      While cheaper in the short term, they can cause costly issues later.

      Cause

      1. Nominal voltage is set to 0.
      2. Waveform recording and sag/swell detection modules is disabled.
      3. The frequency in the filters is too low. The filter is set to a sampling frequency of less than 2000 for sags and greater than 15000 for swells by default. If the events stay between 2000 and 15000 then the sag/swell event will be ignored.
      4. Designer is open.


      Resolution

      1. Confirm nominal voltage is set to something other than 0.
      2. Confirm the waveform recording and sag/swell detection modules have been enabled
      3. Increase the filter frequency by following the steps below:
        1. Confirm that Show Toolbox is checked in Options then open a Vista diagram with the waveform log viewer. Right-click the log viewer to open the Properties.
        2. Go to the Query tab and click Edit SQL ... Notepad opens the query text.                           
        3. Change the frequencies in the code to a higher value in every instance that the waveform log is being queried (there will be 8 values to change).  An example of what the code looks like is below and the number that you change is in red. This example sets the SamplingFrequency to <12000, but it can be anything less than 15000, but bigger than 2000.

      Cause

      The 940-1524 cable is included with all rack-mounted and T (208VAC) versions of Smart-UPS with the prefix SU, SUA, SURT, SURTA, and SUM. It is a 15 feet long Smart signaling cable and it replaces the standard 940-0024 cable in rack mount applications, without the need of an additional 940-1500 extension cable to achieve longer lengths. The 940-1524 is not an extension cable. For any application other than rack mount, a single 940-1500 cable should be used in conjunction with a 940-0024. In rare cases, and only in rack environments, it is permissible to use a single 940-1500 with a 940-1524.

      The 15 foot black smart cable (940-1524) ships only in rack mount units and has also been included in some other products (SU1400XLTNET, SU2200XLTNET, SU3000TNET, SU5000T, SUA1000RM2U, SUA1500RM2U, SUA750RM1U). It was designed to be long enough to allow a UPS to be installed in the bottom of a rack with the server running PowerChute Plus/PowerChute Business Edition automatic shutdown software installed at the top of the rack or in another rack.


      Resolution

      APC by Schneider Electric discourages the use of long serial cables due to the potential for signal attenuation and inter-system ground noise. In racks however, these problems are minimized by proper grounding and the fact that the straight line distance between the server and the UPS is usually only a few feet. Because these same favorable traits are not typically present outside the rack environment, the 940-1524 cable is not included in tower (standard) units (except in the 208V models listed above).

      In non-rack situations, a standard 2 meter cable (e.g. 940-0024) and a single 940-1500 cable should be used. The 940-1500 cable (available as AP9815) provides superior shielding, better insulation, heavier conductors and more noise filtering circuitry than our standard cables to ensure minimal attenuation and noise interference. In rare situations, and then only in rack environments, does APC recommend that you use a single 940-1500 in conjunction with a 940-1524.

      The Network Enhancements division has developed an Isolated Extension Cable (IEC), APC part number AP9825 which converts serial RS-232 signaling and places it on category 5 twisted pair wiring, thus allowing up to 100 meters (328 ft.) of total cable length. The AP9825 can be purchased through APC by Schneider Electric or through your APC by Schneider Electric reseller.
