How is current unbalance calculated on the DM6200?

Issue
The Current Unbalance formula is not detailed in the DM6200 User Manual.

Product Line
DM6200

Environment
Reading verification

Resolution
The current unbalance is calculated using the following equation:

I unbalance = (Max phase current - Min phase current) / Avg 3 phase current * 100

For example:

Ia = 100 A
Ib = 120 A
Ic = 150 A

Therefore, Max phase current = 150 A, Min phase current = 100 A, and Avg 3 phase current = (100 + 120 + 105) / 3 = 108.3 A.

I unbalance = (150 - 100) / 108.3 * 100 = 46.2 % unbalance

How many Maximum Power Point Trackers do the Conext Solar Charge Controllers have?

Issue:
How many maximum power point tracking (MPPT) circuits are in each charge controller?

Product Line:
Conext MPPT 80 600 (p/n: 865-1032)
Conext MPPT 60 150 (p/n: 865-1030)

Environment:
PV arrays with multiple strings.

Cause:
Some larger models include multiple separate MPPT circuitry.

Resolution:
The Conext MPPT solar charge controller family only has a single maximum power point tracker in each unit. Multiple strings should be connected in parallel and the MPP will be found as an average across all strings.

The MPPT 60 150 has terminals for convenient connection of two strings without the need for an external combiner box.

The MPPT 80 600 has terminals for connecting up to three strings without an external combiner box (most installations will require external fusing when using more than 2 strings).  See attached image for locations of PV terminals.

What size conductor can I use with the MPPT 60 150 Solar Charge Controller

Issue
Installer without access to the manuals wants to double check acceptable wire gauge for the MPPT 60 150.

Product Line
MPPT 60 150

Environmental
Install or pre-install of the MPPT 60 150 charge controller.

Cause
Installer that needs to find out or double check the recommended wire gauge for the MPPT 60 150 Solar Charge Controller.  May not have access to the guides.

Resolution
For installations where the PV array output is the maximum allowable 60 A Isc, the minimum allowable wire gauge is #6 AWG (16 mm2) copper wire with a 90°C (194°F) insulation rating. This wire gauge is determined by electrical code requirements regarding conduit knockout sizes, wire bending radius, and space available within the solar charge controller wiring compartment.

What is the difference between a Transformer's "temperature rise" and its "insulation class"?

Issue:
Explanation of the difference between temperature rise and insulation class specifications.

Product Line:
LV Transformers

Environment:
Applies to Low Voltage Transformers by SquareD/Schneider Electric

Cause:
Transformer Temperature Rise and Insulation Class are two different technical attributes

Resolution:

This question has come up because NEC 450-21(b) requires Transformers larger than 112.5 kVA to be installed in fire resistant construction unless the insulation class is 155 or higher.

The insulation system of a Transformer is rated in degrees Celsius at its maximum temperature rating (the Class number = the degree C of the insulation system; example, a Class 220 insulation system is rated for 220°C) Transformers have either a Class 220 (former designation "H") Class 180 (former designation "F",) Class 150 (former designation "B") or Class 105 (former designation "A") Some smaller manufacturers may also use a Class 200 (former designation "R").

The temperature rise of a Transformer is the average temperature rise that will occur in the coils during normal full load.

The insulation system <> standard temperature rise relationships are:
Class 220 <> 150 degree Celsius rise
Class 180 <> 115 degree Celsius rise
Class 150 <> 80 degree Celsius rise
Class 105 <> 50 degree Celsius rise

A Transformer with a Class 220 insulation system can be designed for a maximum temperature rise that is lower than the standard 150 degree Celsius. It can be designed for either 115 or 80 degree Celsius rise. As well, a Class 180 insulation system Transformer can be designed with 80 degree Celsius rise. Class 150 and 105 transformers are not typically designed for other than their standard temperature rise.

Since all Square D low voltage dry type Transformers larger than 112.5kVA are built with a 220 degree Celsius insulation system, exception #2 under NEC 450-21(b) applies.

Goals and Symptoms

Dose ATV28 comply with the folowing standard for shock resistance: IEC61373 CATEGORY 1 Class B. I have noticed that we comply to IEC60068-2-7 which specifies 15 gn, for 11ms. in 3 axis. IEC61373 specifies the shock test to be vertical 30m/s2 tranverse 30m/s2 longitudinal 30 m/s2. Can ATV28 Comply to IEC61373 category 1 class B for vibration test. Looking at our catalogue it is clear that we comply to IEC60068-2-6. In this test there is no metiioning of simulated life testing results. I have noticed that IEC61373 contains a a long life simulated test. If this test can be done in france to check we comply then this will be ok.

Causes and Fixes

The IEC-61737 is for railway applications. Following the IEC 60068-2-7 :
1 gn = 10 m/s2 so if we apply the report 15 gn = 150 m/s2.

The railway is not our principal market but that I can see, there is no problem.

171CCC9x030 M1E Processor IEC Exec. Upgrade to v.1.30e

Goals and Symptoms

The purpose of this resolution is to inform Momentum M1E users that the IEC Exec. has been upgraded (Aug. 2008) to version 1.30.

Facts and Changes

IEC Exec version 1.30 resolves the following issues:

  • 1) M1E IEC Exec version 1.29 did not allow OFS to access Concept IEC unlocated variables.

    2) An xxmit Function Block in an M1 Processor may fault with an error 150 (in the xxmit block) if the M1 is power cycled a number of times and the xxmit block is active (powered) when the PLC is powered down.

Causes and Fixes

Installing IEC Exec. v.1.30 resolves the above mentioned issues.

ATV61 (ATV71) drive is tripping on DB unit sh. circuit fault (fault code bUF)

Issue:
ATV61 or ATV71 - getting DB unit sh. circuit fault (bUF)

Product Line:
ATV61 drives.
230V - ATV61HD55M3X and larger
460V - ATV61HD90N4 and larger
600V - ATV61HC11Y and larger

ATV71 drives.
230V - ATV71HD55M3X and larger
460V - ATV71HD90N4 and larger
600V - ATV71HC11Y and larger

Environment:
ATV61 or ATV71 drives without a DB (Dynamic Braking) Resistor or Braking Unit.

Cause:
Short circuit in DB Braking Module, Shorted Braking Resistor, Short to Ground
The drives factory default is with the [Brake res. fault Mgt] set to Freewheel.

Resolution:
If a Dynamic Braking module and/or DB Resistor is installed, check for short circuit or overheating issues.

If Dynamic Braking is not being used;

Go to Menu 1.8 [Fault Management] and scroll to [BU Protection].
Change [Brake res. fault Mgt] from Freewheel (default setting) to Ignore.

This configuration is to be used only if there is NO braking unit or resistor connected to the drive.
