How to use a port other than 1433 for SQL transactions with PME7.2 / SPM7.0.1

      Issue:
Use a port other than 1433 for SQL transactions with PME7.2 / SPM7.0.1

      Product Line:
      Power Monitoring Expert 7.2.x
      Struxureware Power Monitoring 7.0.x

      Environment:
      Power Monitoring Expert 7.2.x
      Struxureware Power Monitoring 7.0.x

      Cause:
When port 1433 is blocked or unavailable

      Resolution:

Port 1433 is the default port used by SQL for all transactions. If port 1433 is blocked and a different port needs to be used, then perform the following steps after installing SQL, but before installing the StruxureWare:

      1. On the application server, create an alias using the SQL Server Client Network utility (start->run->cliconfg) that comes as part of the Windows OS installation.

      2. Click on the Alias tab and then click the Add button

      3. Select TCP/IP, enter the server name, and uncheck "Dynamically determine port"

      4. Change the Port Number to the new port that is is being used (if the new port is 1436, for example, enter 1436 in this field)

After these steps are completed, running the StruxureWare installer on the Application Server will now connect to the correct port.

Do you have a 32A version of a 438 extension socket?

      LV Transformers

      Environment:
Applies to Low Voltage Transformers by SquareD/Schneider Electric

      Cause:
K rated Transformers for application on Non Linear loads

      Resolution:
The Transformer industry does not typically use a `K1` rating.  Rather it is a non-recognized term that some (consultants, OEMs, contractors) use  to denote a Transformer that will only be feeding Linear loads such as motors, compressors, solenoids, heaters, etc.   In other words, K1 refers to a Transformer that does not have a  `K` rating such as K4, K9, K13, K20.

Does third-party equipment exist to test the AFCI to determine that it is functioning properly?

      Product Line:
      Circuit Breakers
      QO and Homeline
      AFI and AFCI

      Environment:
      Electrical Distribution Equipment

      Resolution:
No. So-called AFCI ``testers`` are on the market, but they are not UL listed for testing the function of an AFI circuit breaker. UL 1436 refers to them as ``indicators`` rather than testers, and Square D does not endorse them or recommend their use. They are subject to error in the form of giving a false negative result.

The UL approved method of testing an AFCI circuit breaker is to press the push-to-test button when installed in an energized load center or panel. This test injects a signal into the AFCI sensor that looks like an arc to the AFCI. A properly functioning AFCI will trip when the test button is pushed.

Paragraph 31.8.1 of the UL 1436 standard requires the AFCI Indicator markings or instructions to effectively state that the test button on the AFCI circuit breaker demonstrates proper operation.

What is the right way to connect and chain the MET 148, MSA 141, and DSM 303 accessories on the Sepam 20 or 40?

      Goals and Symptoms

What is the right way to connect and chain the MET 148, MSA 141, and DSM 303 accessories on the Sepam 20 or 40?

      Causes and Fixes

On the D Port you have to connect and chain in order:

      (1) MSA 141

      (2) MET 148 ( Attention: Option 2 MET 148 for Sepam 40 only )

      (3) DSM 303 (Always at the end of this chain and only if no more than 2 accessories already connected on Sepam)

Note: you can't connect more 3 accessories on this chain so if you already have 1 MSA 141 and 2 MET 148 it is impossible to set also 1 DSM 303. In this case if you want to put this DSM 303, you have to remove the MSA 141 or 1 MET 148.

What is the proper way to place a single phase Symmetra UPS into maintenance bypass?

      Issue

What is the proper way to place a Single-Phase Symmetra UPS into maintenance bypass?

      Product Line

      Symmetra Power Array
      Symmetra RM
      Symmetra LX

      Environment

      All serial ranges

      Cause

Single phase Symmetra UPS systems feature a maintenance bypass mode that can be initiated physically by the user used to bypass the power modules and intelligence modules and provide utility power to the attached equipment in the event of an emergency or if both intelligence modules must be removed.  This document describes the proper way to enter the maintenance bypass state for a single phase Symmetra UPS system.

      Resolution

The ideal method of transferring the load to maintenance bypass on a Single-Phase Symmetra UPS is to first command the UPS to bypass before engaging the maintenance bypass switch/breaker.

The following sequence should be used:

      1. From the PowerView display, go to "Control" / "UPS into Bypass" and press "Return".

      2. Answer "Yes".

      3. Engage the Maintenance Bypass Switch. (Do Not Open the Input Breaker, the critical load will be dropped if the Input Breaker is opened).

      4. Now the unit is in Maintenance Bypass. While in this state, tasks such as removing both intelligence modules or cycling the System Enable switch can be done.

Caution:  There is still power present inside the Symmetra frame. Only the Power, Intelligence, and Battery Modules can be safely removed / replaced.  If work is to be performed inside the frame, it needs to be done by APC's Field Service Engineers when the UPS is fully powered down.

Why does a battery weaken when not in use?

Valve Regulated Lead Acid batteries (VRLA) are designed to be used in two types of applications, Float and Cycle service. In Cycle service mode, the batteries are continuously being discharged throughout the course of a day and then charged overnight (i.e. fork lift). In Float service, the batteries are continuously trickle charged to maintain full charge status and is discharged in short usage cycles or infrequent deep cycles.

When used in Cycle mode, the estimated battery life is around 200 complete discharges. In Float mode, the service life is estimated to be 3 to 4 years.  A UPS operates in float mode.

A battery system must be inspected and tested at regular intervals. Faults can occur long before a battery's expected service life expires. Experience shows that this holds true for all types of battery systems. The following are recommended test/inspections that should be performed at least every six months.

      1. Battery charger setting. Faulty charging shortens a battery's service life.
      2. Corrosion may occur at terminal posts, internal connections, etc.
      3. Ambient temperatures may need to be corrected.
      4. Leakage may occur.

UPS systems proactively performs a quick self-test discharge test every 14 days (by default) to detect abnormally weak battery packs and it will display this anomaly on the display and any any accessories.

As mentioned before, UPS systems operate under Float battery mode (i.e. idle). VRLA batteries are specially designed to operate in this mode.  The UPS will assist you in determining the state of the battery, but this does not substitute for preventive maintenance checks. You should at least check the temperature of the battery pack and give a visual inspection for physical failures (bloating/leaking).

What TCP ports are used in ION Enterprise and StruxureWare Power Monitoring Expert?

      Issue
What TCP ports are used by ION Enterprise or StruxureWare Power Monitoring Expert?

      Product Line
ION Enterprise, StruxureWare Power Monitoring Expert (PME)

      Environment
All ION or PME power monitoring systems

      Cause
ION/PME requires certain ports be opened in order for the Software, SQL and Meter Communications to be successful.

      Resolution
The following tables show the ports used by ION Enterprise and StruxureWare Power Monitoring Expert, up to and including PME v8.2:

For graphical representation see the diagram, up to and including PME v8.2:

Note: port 1498 is used for Sybase database

For Sepam 80: what is the correct order for adding the accessories MSA 141, MET 148, DSM 303, and MCS 025?

      Goals and Symptoms

For Sepam 80: what is the correct order for adding the accessories MSA 141, MET 148, DSM 303, and MCS 025?

      Causes and Fixes

The Sepam 80 has got 2 Ports. Using these, it is always possible to be able add all the different accessories that one might need for the Sepam 80.
On the D1 port, connect in order the MSA 141, next 1 or 2 MET 148 ( 1 MET 148 if you use also DSM 303) and next at the end the DSM 303

On the D2 port, connect in order the Second MET 148 and the MCS 025 at the end.

      Rule:
You can connect a maximum of three accessories on each port (D1 or D2).
The DSM 303 and the MCS 025 have to be always at the end of this chain. So if you use these 2 Accessories DSM and MCS on same Sepam 80, you have to use necessarily the 2 ports ( i.e. set the DSM at the end of D1 and set the MCS 025 at the end of D2)
