      Resolution:

      This document refers to installing  the APTF10KT01, APTF10KW01, and APTF20KW01 transformers in a North American 120/240 or 120/208 environment. For installations in other regions please consult the users manual.

      The wiring block outputs are as follows:


      For domestic use, make sure that the Terminal Block Jumper is installed between the Ground Terminal and Terminal 8 on the output wiring block, as illustrated on page 8 of the user manual. Please also make sure that the input voltage switch is in the correct position.

      The step-down transformer provides 240/120 output as 2 120v hots, a neutral, and a ground. It provides 208v output as a 120v hot, an 88v hot, and a ground. The 120v hot (terminal  7) and the 88v hot (terminal 9) are 180 degrees out of phase. You will measure 208v from terminals 7 to 9. The step-down transformer is not able to provide 2 120v hots that are 120 degrees out of phase as you would see with utility power.



       Note: If your installation requires both 208v and 120v output power you will need 2 separate subpanels: a 240v/120v panel and a dedicated 208v subpanel.

      Can the PowerLogic Energy Meter be used to monitor multiple loads?

      A user would like to totalize multiple loads with an Energy meter.

      The installation guide for the Energy meter does not contain instructions on wiring the meter to monitor multiple loads.

      Resolution
      *Warning: Installation and maintenance of this device should only be performed by qualified, competent personnel that have appropriate training and experience with high voltage and current devices. Failure to follow the instructions / warnings in the Meter Installation Guide can result in permanent damage to the meter, severe injury or death. 

      The Energy meter is calibrated with the set of CTs that are included with the meter, however the Energy Meter can be installed with up to three sets of parallel CTs to monitor multiple loads. When wiring multiple current transformers in parallel to the Energy Meter, all voltages corresponding to the individual loads must be the same voltage values and must be from the same source. The voltage applied to the inputs of the Energy Meter will be used in the power calculations. Monitoring different voltage values and monitoring the same voltage values from different sources will both cause the power calculations to be inaccurate.

      For example, if load A has a system voltage type of 120/208 VAC, and load B has a system voltage type of 277/480 VAC, an Energy Meter cannot be used to measure both loads in a parallel configuration. Likewise, if Load A and Load B both have a system voltage type of 120/208 VAC, but are supplied their respective voltage from different transformers, an Energy Meter cannot be used to measure both loads in a parallel configuration.

      Note: When multiple sets of CTs are connected in parallel to the Energy Meter, the accuracy drops from less than 1% to between 1%-3%.


      Please follow the guidelines in the attached addendum for selecting and installing the parallel CTs on an Energy meter.

      Does the SEPAM MES 114/120 I/O module have analog input availability?

      The Sepam MES114/120 I/O module does not have an input that can monitor the value of an analog signal generated from an external power source. The Sepam I/O modules are designed to detect status changes of a circuit breaker, contactor, plc, etc....., and will output a "0" or "1", depending on the condition of the input signal. The MES114 I/O module (compatible w/ Series 20/40) has up to 10 input connections and the MES120 (compatible w/ Series 80) has up to 14 input connections.
      The Accessory MES114 and MES 120 can be used only in Logical Status

      The MES114 module, on the other hand, will accept analog input signals, but the input APS_SENSORS will only detect whether the status of the analog signal is high "1" or low "0" depending on a certain threshold. These thresholds can be located in the characteristics section of the MES114 install sheet:


      For a 110 V AC analog signal, a signal greater than 88V will force a "1" state and a signal less than 22V will force a "0" state.
      For a 220 V AC analog signal, a signal greater than 176V will force a "1" state and a signal less than 48V will force a "0" state.

      These input status changes can then be used by the Sepam relay to influence control logic, display alarm messages & LEDs, trigger waveforms or open & close relay outputs.

      Nevertheless sepam can use the Accessory MSA 141 to manage an Analogic Output

      A user may wish to hardwire the input/output of the UPS rather than use the supplied input power cord.

      Resolution:
      APC offers a hardwire kit to be used with the 120/208 Matrix-UPS product. The part #s for these kits are as follows:

      MXA001: 5kVA Hardwire kit
      MXA002: 3kVA Hardwire kit

      These hardwire kits replace the standard back plate and allows the input and output of the Matrix to be wired directly to their corresponding electrical panels. This kit provides 120V, 208V and 240V on the output. The electrical specifications for both the Matrix 3kVA and Matrix 5kVA UPS systems are as follows:

      What values should be set for the potential transformer (PT) primary and secondary values in a CM4000 when connecting the voltage inputs of meters directly to the bus (with fuses)?

      The meter may be set to "No PT" or the PT ratio may be used. 

      Resolution
      When setting the PT ratio, one may select "No PT" for the PT Primary Scale - there is no requirement to set the PT ratio if "NO PT" is chosen.

      The PT Primary and PT Secondary inputs are still available, but they are not used when "No PT" is selected for the PT Pri Scale.
      A user would set the PT ratio to "No PT" when the system voltage used by the load to be metered is the same as the system voltage connected directly to the meter (i.e. direct connect with no potential transformers used).

      The PT ratio needs to be set only when the load is using a different voltage from the meter voltage inputs (i.e. potential transformers are being utilized). Potential transformers are used when the voltage of the electrical system is higher than the rated specifications of the meter voltage inputs. The PT primary and secondary ratio on the meter should match that of the potential transformers in the field.

      Example 1: When metering a 1.2 kV system with a set of PT's that contain a ratio of 1200:120, the PT Primary of the meter should be set to 1200 and the PT Secondary of the meter should be set to 120.
      (Potential transformers are used in this scenario because 1.2 kV exceeds the acceptable voltage input threshold the CM4000 can withstand (1–690 L-L, 400 L-N)

      Example 2: When metering a a 480V L-L system, no PT's are being used. The system voltage is directly connected to the metering inputs. In this scenario, you would set the PT Pri Scale of the meter to "No PT".

      Note: If the meter receives voltage that is the same as the voltage used by the load and "No PT" is NOT selected, then a PT ratio of 1:1 would need to be used and is still acceptable. (i.e.This result can be achieved by setting the PT Ratio to 120:120 or 480:480)

      XW Won't qualify generator.

      Issue:

      XW inverter charger will not qualify AC generator. AC IN light blinks
      AC input qualification, overloading the generator, unable to sustain battery charging and and running loads (multi-tasking)


      Environment:

      Resolution:

      1) Ensure generator is split phase 120/240, not 120 monophase or 120/208V. Voltage from (L1 to N) and (N to L2) should add up exactly to (L1 to L2) voltage
      3) Recommended, size your generator 2 times the rating of the XW system.
      2) Ensure no neutral to ground bond in Generator
      3) Connect gen output to AC2, not AC1 and open up AC2 parameters in XW advanced settings - ac settings menu
      4) Reduce max charge rate in XW
      5) If Kohler RES series generator, see  Solution 1179

      Cause:

      1) XW can only connect to splt-ph 120/240 unless converted to monophase 
      2) Potential ground loop
      3) AC2 qualification parameter window much wider than AC1
      4) Gen being overloaded by combination of house loads and XW charger.

      Circuit breakers are typically marked only with a few standard voltages, while other voltage systems exist.

      Resolution:
      Yes. According to 2011 NEC article  240.83(E), a circuit breaker may be used at voltages equal to or less than its voltage rating. 
      When applied on a system of lower voltage than marked, he interrupting rating is equal to the next highest marked interrupting rating. 
      The only exceptions to application at less than rated voltage are:
      1. QO and HOM -GFI, -EPD, -AFI, -CAFI, and DF circuit breakers must be applied on 120/240 Vac systems only (they need over 100 Vac to power the electronic modules)
      2. EHB-EPD and EDB-EPD type breakers which must be applied on 480Y/277 systems only

      NOTE:  Circuit breakers marked with DC ratings only are not suitable for application on AC systems, and circuit breakers marked with AC ratings only are not suitable for application on DC systems.

      Lifted neutral at utility panel.

      Resolution:

      In a typical balanced load with all loads using the neutral return and the neutral is severed, the voltage from each Phase appears across each load and is added on itself. This is a typical fault condition. Underwriter's Laboratories realized that this fault condition is common and it is not up to the Surge Protection Industry to prevent these failures but in the event of this common failure, UL addressed this condition by requiring all Surge Protectors to pass a fault of 240 VAC at different current levels to simulate different loads. These currents are: 125 mA rms. 500 mA rms. 2.5 A rms. and 5 A rms. They also require an unlimited current test (1000 A rms. or greater). 240 VAC is used because most household wiring is 120/240 3 wire single phase and a lost neutral produces 240 VAC. The unit during this test has cheesecloth wrapped around it. The unit may not emit flame nor can it char the cheesecloth nor can it create an opening in the housing that exposes live metal parts large enough for a child's finger to be inserted. After the test, the unit may not allow leakage currents of > 0.5 mA from Line to Ground and Neutral to Ground also it must withstand a dielectric voltage of 240 VAC for minute between each protected mode. Our units have passed this stringent test requirement in order to get UL recognition and to insure the safety of our customer's lives and property.

      • A 3p breaker can be used on a 1 phase system only if indicated by the markings as noted below.
      For reference:
      • Per NEC article 240.85: "A circuit breaker with a straight voltage rating, such as 240V or 480V, shall be permitted to be applied in a circuit in which the nominal voltage between any two conductors does not exceed the circuit breaker’s voltage rating."
      • According to UL's White book, "3–pole circuit breakers are suitable for use on 3-phase systems only, unless marked to indicate use on 1-phase systems, such as, “For 1–phase connections, use two outside poles,” or an equivalent statement. A 3-pole breaker used in place of a 2-pole breaker on a 3-phase system, such as a 2-pole breaker used in a branch circuit that is actually two legs of a 3-phase system, is acceptable without the 3-pole breaker being specifically marked."

      Powerpact P
      • The 3-pole P-frame breaker has a marking on the cover that states "single phase any 2 poles". Therefore on a 120/240Vac system, it is ok to use any 2 poles of a 3 pole P-frame breaker.
      • This breaker marking correlates with the wiring diagram markings of the M and P breaker enclosure, which shows both 2p and 3p applications.
      Powerpact L
      • The 3-pole L-frame breaker does NOT have a marking for single phase systems. Therefore on the 120/240Vac system, it is NOT ok to use a 3 pole L-frame breaker.
      • This marking correlates with the wiring diagram of the L breaker enclosure, which shows only 3p applications.
      Powerpact H and J
      • Three-pole Powerpact H and J-frame thermal-magnetic breakers are marked for single phase use
      • Three-pole Powerpact H and J-frame Micrologic breakers with standard trip units (U31X and U33X) are marked for single-phase use
      • Three-pole Powerpact H and J-frame Micrologic breakers with Ammeter and Energy trip units (U43X, U44X, U53X and U54X) are NOT marked for single-phase use.

      If the voltage of any phase is measured as less than 75% of the voltage on any other phase, the display will show PHASE LOSS and indicate the specific phase(s).

      Resolution
      If the energy meter is installed with the proper number of phases (see selection below to determine this) then the phase voltages should be verified. If the number of phases installed is not correct, then the phase loss alarm will be indicated in all operating conditions.

      It’s very important to know the model number of your Energy meter.  
      For example, users see “Phase Loss” error when they use EMB2043 (1 phase, 3 wire) with 1 phase, 2 wire application.
