Error while modifying System Platform Installation: A newer version of Platform Common Services is already installed

SUMMARY
When you modify the System Platform installation, sometimes you get an error 'a newer version of Platform Common Services is already installed'

SITUATION
System Platform - 2017 and later

ACTION
  • Open the Control Panel, go to Programs and Features, then select Platform Common Services
  • Select the Change Option
  • Select the ASB Service Repository feature. Use the 'Entire feature will be installed on the local hard drive' option from the dropdown
  • Complete the 'Modify' installation of the PCS Framework
Once you complete the above steps, you can add the new System Platform component/feature without encountering an error. Run setup.exe from the System Platform installation media to perform the 'Modify' installation
