This issue was seen immediately following the reboot at the end of an System Manager Software Professional Edition (SMSPE v4.0.1) new install.
Attempting to start the PowerLogic Network Server fails for an unknown reason. There is no CsInfo.log file to reference in the POWERLOGIC\SMS folder. When the user tries to open the SMS Configuration Utility, a CfgSMS.exe - Unable to Locate Component dialog box appears which says:
"This application has failed to start because PLReg.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."
This message occurs because the system variable Path is missing altogether or missing an entry which points to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Square D Shared.
To check for this issue:
1) Right click on My Computer and choose Properties.
2) Click the Advanced tab.
3) Click the Environment Variables button.
4) In the System Variables box at the bottom of the window, scroll down and look for a Variable named Path.
If Path is missing altogether, this may point to a problem with the operating system install. The user can continue with the following fix, but other issues may surface in the future. If the Path variable exists, the user should double click on the value and append C:\Program Files\Common Files\Square D Shared after the last semicolon. This will ensure that the SMS utilities can access the necessary dll files for operation. Also, if C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\BINN is also missing from the Path value, the user should add a semicolon after the previous entry and add it.
