In Windows XP, the User Needs to Set Permissions on a File or Folder, but There Is No Security Tab in Properties



This issue occurs in Windows XP. By default, the Security tab is hidden.

To enable the Security tab, the user must disable simple file sharing by following these steps:      

1) In Windows Explorer, go to Tools and choose Folder OptionsÂ….

2) Click the View tab.

3) At the bottom of Advanced Settings, uncheck Use simple file sharing (Recommended).

4) Click Apply and then OK.

The user now has access to the Security tab.
