"There is no protocol associated with this terminal" when opening a XBTL1000 v4.51 .DOP project file
Issue:
When trying to open a ".DOP" extension project file in XBTL1000 v4.51, an error message appears with the text: "There is no protocol associated with this terminal".
Product Line:
XBTL1000 v4.51
Environment:
Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10
Cause:
This is caused by the .DOP project file having one or more protocols (communication driver(s)) that are not installed in XBTL1000 on the PC. Third-party protocols (for example Siemens "MPI(3964R)S7") are not installed by default and must be installed separately.
Resolution:
To be able to open the .DOP file, all of the protocols that are missing must be installed on XBTL1000. Since the message does not tell us which specific protocol that is missing, we must install each one or all protocols and test opening the .DOP file.
Here are two methods of installation for the example "MPI(3964R)S7" protocol:
[Install Method 1 - From inside XBTL1000]
- Run XBTL1000 in Administrator Mode
- Close the window where it asks you to select an HMI
- Go to File->Install Protocol…
- In the popup window, select the root folder of your XBTL1000 installer files
- In the left box (list of all installable protocols), select “MPI(3964R)S7”
- Click the “Install >>” button.
- Accept any prompts that appear.
[Install Method 2 - From the setup files on the installation disk]
- Open Windows File Explorer
- Go to the XBTL1000 installation folder
- Go to the subfolder \\xbtcps7\Disk1\
- Run the Setup.exe file
- Accept any prompts that appear.
