Video: How do I update the firmware of my SMT, SMX, or SMC series Smart-UPS using the Firmware Upgrade Wizard?
There are two methods to update the firmware of the UPS:
- Locally via a Serial or USB connection using the Firmware Upgrade Wizard application
- Remotely via the Network Management Card (SMT or SMX models)
- The Firmware Upgrade Wizard is the most reliable and preferred method of upgrading.
If you have a previous version of the Firmware Upgrade Wizard or Firmware Images, delete the old version and download the latest revision.
If you need to upgrade an SRT unit, or need to upgrade via the Network Management Card, refer to Kbase #FA164737
Links to download all necessary files can be found at the end of this document.
Smart-UPS SMT, SMX, and SMC Families
In general, all Smart-UPS models beginning with "SMT", "SMX", "SMC" are supported via USB or Serial.
Since we will continually release new products that are supported by the tool, we identify devices that are NOT supported.
Devices that are *NOT* supported by the Firmware Upgrade Wizard:
Devices that are supported via *Serial ONLY*:
SMX750, SMX1000, SMX1500 with firmware UPS 02.x or lower. (These units are 120 V devices built prior to date code 1037)
SMX Units with firmware earlier than UPS 07.2
SMT units with firmware earlier than UPS 08.0
Note: No harm will occur if you attempt to update firmware via USB port on the above units. A warning message will indicate that the unit does not support firmware update via this method, and the Firmware Upgrade Wizard will close.
The system requirements for the Firmware Upgrade Wizard are as follows:
Operating systems: Microsoft Windows XP®, Windows Vista® , Windows 7®, Windows 8®, 8.1®, and Windows 10®
To find your current Firmware level:
Run the Wizard and it will identify the current firmware version before performing the update.
For all but SMC unit:
From the main menu of the UPS LCD screen select "About" and scroll down to "UPS Firmware"
