    EM4800 Configuration tool error "The file 'C:\Users\...\6312-temp.xml' does not contain valid XML tag structure."

    The EM4800 configuration tool gives the following error when attempting to connect to a meter or load a configuration.
    "The file 'C:\Users\...\Documents\triacta\6312-temp.xml' does not contain valid XML tag structure."

    The meter's configuration file (.xml) contains an invalid XML character.


    Note: The meter's configuration file name (meter.xml) will be dependant on what was previously saved. If you can not locate a copy of the configuration file, then the meter's configuration will have to be recreated.

    If you have a saved copy of the configuration file:
    1. Locate the meter's configuration file (C:\Users\...\Documents\triacta\meter.xml)
    2. Right click on the file and select Open with > Notepad
    3. Remove invalid XML character ( & < > " ' )
    4. Save the .xml file
    5. Open the EM4800 Configuration Tool
    6. Select Unit > List...
    7. Uncheck Load Config
    1. Select the device in the device list, click OK
    2. Select Unit > Open
    3. Click on Yes when prompted to load the file
    1. Navigate to the meter's configuration file
    2. Send configuration to device (Select Unit > Send...)
    If you DO NOT have a saved copy of the configuration file:
    1. Open the EM4800 Configuration Tool
    2. Select Unit > List...
    3. Uncheck Load Config
    1. Make the appropriate configuration changes
    Note: Avoid using invalid XML characters ( & < > " ' ) when assigning meter names
    1. Select Unit > Save to save the configuration
    2. Select Unit > Send to send the configuration to the device
