Is it standard practice to use the speed reference to start and stop the drive while keeping the run command enabled?

    Issue:
Starting the motor with the speed reference.

    Product Line:
    Altivar 312

    Environment:
    All models and serial numbers

    Cause:
    None

    Resolution:
No, it is not recommended to start and stop using the speed reference.  When the run command is enabled, the output transistors are biased on.  This can increase the opportunity for voltage transients to cause damage.  It is recommended to use a switch or relay to disable the run command when the drive is not called to run the motor.
