PME 7.2 - Clicking on the Devices icon in the Management Console results in a time out making the Management Console unusable.

    Issue
After upgrading from SPM 7.0. or 7.0.1, it is not possible to access the Devices screen of the Management Console. When you click on the Devices icon, the Management Console freezes and then eventually you see a dialog indicating that the operation timed out.

    Product
StruxureWare Power Monitoring Expert (PME) 7.2

    Environment
This will happen in an SPM system that has many logical devices and is subsequently upgraded from SPM 7.0.1 to PME 7.2.x

    Cause
In PME 7.2.x, a check was added to 7.2 to determine what logical devices are associated with a given physical device. The purpose of the check was to provide the user with this information should a device be deleted. Unfortunately, the SQL view used to provide the information is not very efficient and the timeout is hard-coded to 30 seconds.

    Resolution
*Warning: Take backups of any files prior to modifying them. Ensure the backups are in a location that will not be overwritten (i.e. the Desktop).

*Warning: Irreparable database damage can occur. This procedure should only be performed by users familiar with SQL Server Management Studio. Databases should be backed up prior to performing this procedure.*

Download the attached zip file and extract the files on the PME server.

    1) Open SQL Server management Studio and connect to the instance with PME databases.

    2) Open the file 'update_mc_view.sql' and click execute to update a database view in ION_Network

    3) Backup ManagementConsole.exe and ManagementConsole.Business.DeviceEntityManager.dll in the \system\bin directory to a new location such as the desktop.

    4) Replace ManagementConsole.exe and ManagementConsole.Business.DeviceEntityManager.dll in the \system\bin directory with files extracted from the zip file.

    3) Rename ManagementConsole.resources.dll in the \system\bin\en directory to something else such as xManagementConsole.resources.dll so that new resource changes are picked from the ManagementConsole.exe.

The SQL script should be run on the machine hosting SQL Server. The Management Console files need to be replaced on the Primary server and also on any Engineering Clients.
