Generating Report from an Archive database that is from another Server

Customer has an archive that was created on another server(Lets say SERVER A). Now they have attached the database on a new SERVER A as an archive DB, they can query the archive DB using VISTA but they would also want to generate a report Using Reporter (Excel based reporting tool).

    ION Enterprise 8.0
    Struxureware Power Monitoring 7.0,7.0.1

    Windows 32 bit OS

There is no direct way to create the report, hence this document will explain how to generate the report from the archive database that was created on another server.

Note for 64 bit OS refer to FA211640

Step 1:  Attach the Archive database from another old server on the new server.

NOTE: After attaching the database, it is good idea to run the database upgrade process in ION database manager to ensure the structure of the database is compatible with the ION Enterprise system that it has been attached to.
Step 2: Make sure you can query the archive database using VISTA. Note: You will need to create a new Query module in Designer. Please refer to the ION Enterprise User Guide guide for more information. Step 3: After confirming that VISTA works, proceed by modifying the registry as shown below.

Step 4: Create a DSN for the archive in the Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI\.

    Step 5: Create a new sub-key with a name i.e.: 'ION_Data_Archive'.

Step 6: Based on the new Archive database's name. Populate it with String values like the following:

      • - "Database"="ION_Data_Archive"
        - "Description"="AutoGenerated ION_Data Archive DSN" - "Driver"="%SystemRoot%\System32\SQLSRV32.dll"

        - "LastUser"="Report"

        - "Server"="SERVERNAME\ION"

Step 7: In the Registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources, create a new String value with the same name as the key you created above (i.e. 'ION_Data_Archive')
     - Give it the value "SQL Server". [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources] "ION_Data_Archive"="SQL Server".

Step 8: You can now create a DSN manually using ODBC tool under the administrator tool in Control Panel.

Step 9: Run the report using reporter.
