What is the IP (Internal Protection) rating of the NetShelter SX, SV and CX cabinets?
Internal Protection (IP) rating of the NetShelter SX, SV and CX cabinets is required.
NetShelter SX, NetShelter SV, NetShelter CX
All versions and serial ranges.
IP ratings are used to determine how large an object, or liquid, may pass through the side panels or roof of a cabinet.
The NetShelter cabinets have not been independently tested to IEC 60529 for Internal Protection, but they meet the rating scale (see below).
The NetShelter SX and SV cabinets meet the Internal Protection rating scale of IP20.
This includes: AR3100, AR3104, AR3107, AR3130, AR3140, AR3150, AR3157, AR3300, AR3305, AR3340, AR3347, AR3350, AR3357, AR3200, and AR3810, AR2400, AR2401, AR2400FP1, AR2480, AR2500, AR2580, AR2407, AR2487, AR2507, AR2587, AR2200, AR2280.
The NetShelter CX meet the Internal Protection rating scale of IP44.
This includes: AR4000MV, AR4018A, AR4018IA, AR4024A, AR4024IA, AR4038A, AR4038IA.
With the optional dust filters installed they meet the rating scale of IP54.
The Internal Protection (IP) standard describes a system for classifying the degrees of protection provided by the enclosures of electrical equipment. Developed by the European committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC), these standards are designed to numerically rate an electrical product on the level of protection it's enclosure provides. By assigning different number codes, the product's degree of protection can be identified quickly and easily.
The IP Rating Scale is defined as follows:
1st number of the rating can change from 0-6 and indicates the degree of protection with respect to persons and solid objects.
0 = Not protected
1 = Protects against solid objects greater than 50 mm
2 = Protects against solid objects greater than 12 mm
3 = Protects against solid objects greater than 2.5 mm
4 = Protects against solid objects greater than 1.0 mm
5 = Dust protected
6 = Dust tight
2nd number of the rating can range from 0-8 and indicates degree of protection with respect to harmful ingress of water.
0 = Not protected
1 = Protects against dripping water
2 = Protects against dripping water of +- 15 degree angle
3 = Protects against spraying water of +- 60 degree angle
4 = Protects against splashing water
5 = Protects against water jets
6 = Protected against heavy seas
7 = Protects against immersion
8 = Protects against submersion
Therefore, it is explained that:
- The NetShelter SX and SV cabinets meet the rating scale of IP20; protects against solid objects of greater than 12 mm and does not offer protection against water.
- The NetShelter CX cabinet meets the rating scale of IP44; protects against solid objects greater than 1.0 mm and offers protection against splashing water. Plus, if the optional dust filters are used the CX will protect against dust and splashing water, which meets the rating scale of IP54.
