Certification Marks

  • Product certification marks are prima facie evidence that a product complies with mandatory regulations.
  • The electrical contractor should look for the compliance mark covering electrical safety if the item is a declared article.
  • The electrical contractor should also look for electromagnetic compatibility compliance (EMC).
  • If the certification marks are not evident, the product is likely to be non-compliant and should not be used.

In 2012, a new regulation will take effect, which states that an electrical product will only be required to have the one mark, the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM), which is the triangular mark shown below (excepting AS/NZS 3190 RCDs).
