Clipsal SA Staff digs deep for worthy causes
Clipsal South Australian staff have given very generously to a number of local and national charities to the tune of $18 000
The largest number of funds raised were through sales of gym equipment from the old Clipsal Gym at Bowden, raising an impressive $10 000 for their nominated charity, Canteen.
The remaining $8000 was raised throughout the year with a relentless number of BBQ fund raisers, raffles and drives. Who could forget Tracky-Dack Day? Cadbury chocolate boxes contributed $3000. Entertainment books accounted for $3000. As a result, $2000 donations were each presented to: The Fred Hollows Foundation, UnitingCare Wesley Bowden, Operation Flinders and the Animal Welfare League.
Ron Kelly, Treasurer of the Clipsal Staff Charity Fund said the money raised was a 'monumental' effort.
"Anyone that contributed to any of the fund raisers should be proud to have helped a handful of organisations striving to make life and society a better place for us all. A special thanks needs to be give to all those volunteers who gave up their time and effort to make the activities and events possible."
"Clipsal has a big heart," said Damien Cummins, Executive General Manager of Clipsal Australia, who presented the cheques to the grateful recipients.
"We are pleased to help out whichever way we can. These activities also bring us together for the greater good. It’s something we should always encourage."
Appreciating the help was Peter McGlennon, Division Manager SA & NT of CanTeen, who said the $10 000 donation was a nice surprise. "We currently have about 450 patients that we assist each year. Many of them we put through camps in Walkers Flat, SA and Litchfield, NT. The camps give our patients the opportunity to discuss their situation and participate in activities. There are more applicants than places in our camps so the money will go a long way to bringing more kids."
Jonathon Robran, Development Manager for Operation Flinders said, "This money will assist us with putting 350 at risk youth through our Wilderness Adventure programme in 2010. This is essentially an eight-day, 100km trek through the Flinders Ranges to increase self-confidence, teamwork, leadership and discipline for the young participants."
Brenda Champion, Public Relations Officer from the Animal Welfare League said "Each year, more than 20 000 lost, abandoned and strayed animals come through our shelter. We’ll use that money to provide care and attention, food, protection and shelter for the animals in our shelter now and for those who make their way to us in the future. These animals don’t choose to be here but you have chosen to make their lives better"
Clipsal has been assisting UnitingCare Wesley Bowden since 1995. Julian Sawicki, CEO said that "the funds helped with our Christmas appeal in the form of hampers and toy parcels. These comprise of emergency food, clothes and toys for some 1000 families in need."
Wendy Hamilton, Donations and Database Coordinator for The Fred Hollows Foundation said that: "We appreciate Clipsal’s commitment to restoring sight, hope and opportunity to those blinded by poverty alone."
