Clipsal’s driving ambition to help your business

“I’ve never known a sporting event where the sponsor has attached itself so well to an event and attached itself as the name of the event as a result.” - Murray Walker

And so began the 2011 Clipsal “Driving Your Business” business session held at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide on Friday, March 19 of the Clipsal 500 weekend.

Mystery guest and world famous motor sport commentator, Murray Walker addressed the crowd of 400 electrical contractors, guests of Clipsal and then added:

“The Clipsal 500 is the best sporting event in Australia. It is the best touring car event in the world and I have been going to a hell of a lot since 1949.”

It was high praise from the sprightly 87 year old and set the scene for one of the best business sessions Clipsal has ever put together.

Damien Cummins, Clipsal Executive General Manager, who began his career as an electrician, spoke of Clipsal’s focus to help contractors grow their business by providing training and upselling skills and help them make more money. He urged contractors to keep up with the latest innovations and be ready to install fibre into every premises.

“The electrical industry is constantly evolving. Our focus is on helping you, as business people, to earn more money through up selling. As a company, it is up to us to provide you with new and innovative products to do so. The opportunities for us are huge.”

Clipsal always chooses the Clipsal 500 to release nearly all of its new products. Popular new products included a new range of LED downlights and Optiline cable trays. However, it was the company’s new iCat iPhone app version of its Clipsal Australian Trade Product Guide that proved most popular exceeding 2000 downloads from iTunes by the Monday following the Clipsal 500.

Guest speaker, finance journalist and Sunrise TV financial commentator, Michael Pascoe entertained and informed the audience with an optimistic overview of the Australian economy.

He spoke of the “big lies” that politicians and the media feed us to sway our votes. However in reality, our economy was riding on a surge of investment in the mining sector, is complementing the emerging Asian economy, that demand for contractors will only increase and that “you wouldn’t want to be in anywhere else on earth.”

However, he did urge contractors to invest in their skills and those of their people. “Surround yourself with a team. That team should include your accountant your bank, your suppliers and right down to the products you use.”

Scott Barell from ETC Electrical, WA described the show as great.

“Michael Pascoe was very informative and gave me a confident outlook with the economy.”

Sam Cox from Giles Electrical in Launceston agreed saying the show was well worth coming to and took away a lot of positive messages.
