Lifesavers in electrical protection
Safety in Numbers
The Clipsal Lifesaver Range continues to grow. Since the late 1970s Clipsal has led the way in the development of Residual Current Device (Safety Switch) technology, with a product range that is constantly increasing and being improved to meet the needs of consumers. So whether you require fixed or portable protection, Clipsal has the Lifesaver for the job.
When a power tool or appliance is in use, your Clipsal Lifesaver continually monitors and compares the current flowing through the ‘Active’ and ‘Neutral’ circuits of the electrical installation. In the event of a current flow to earth, an imbalance will occur. If this imbalance is sufficient (30mA), the Clipsal Lifesaver will cut the power in less than 40 milliseconds.

Without doubt, the best form of fixed protection you can buy is a switchboard mounted safety switch. There are, however, situations and locations where specialised or portable electrical protection is more appropriate.

Total protection with switchboard mounted safety switches
The most complete form of protection available is a switchboard mounted safety switch that can protect all power and lighting circuits if required.
Designed for our tough Australian conditions, Clipsal 4 Series Switchboard Mounted Safety Switches are available in a wide range of current ratings and sensitivities for protection in any home or workshop.
Their patented design ensures superior performance and the advantage of all your electrical controls being in one place, right next to your meters and circuit breakers or fuses. Without doubt the best protection money can buy.

The Lifesaver Portable Range
For a tradesperson or the home handy person who works away from a fixed safety switch, portable protection is a must. The cords of power tools and electrical garden tools are easily damaged and using any appliance in damp conditions can be dangerous. Our Lifesaver range includes Portable Plugs, Power Outlets, Plug Adaptors, Heavy Duty Cord Sets and Cable Reels, each one offering safety when you work with electricity.

A Reel Lifesaver
Clipsal’s neat, robust and totally portable Lifesaver 801/30RC Cord Reel is fitted with 30 metres of cable and a 418RC Safety Switch Plug for protection wherever you’re working with power tools.
Its built-in double pole twin power outlet lets you plug equipment straight into the reel for added safety and convenience.
And you don’t need to fully unwind the cable when working only a couple of metres away from a power outlet, therefore reducing the amount of cable lying around underfoot.
Note: Amperage rating is reduced when not fully unwound.

The new Lifesaver on patrol
The Perfect Combination of Safety and Style
The new Clipsal 2025RC Series Lifesaver Power Outlet offers the best of both worlds, the protection and security of the Lifesaver Range together with the fashion and flexibility of our 2000 Series products.
The 2025RC offers a simple method of single circuit protection, so that in the event of a fault, only the directly affected outlets are disconnected.
Easy to install, the 2025RC fits all standard mounting brackets and accessories and if wired appropriately, will offer the same high level of protection to all ‘downstream’ outlets on the same circuit.
This single circuit protection means less likelihood of tripping from an accumulation of minor leakages.

Additional Benefits
A Lifesaver Power Outlet will also cut power to your expensive electrical equipment in the event of a fault to earth. This protects appliances against damage and your home against fire resulting from faults of this nature. The 2025RC can also be used to test appliances for faults. (A 10 milliamp model, the 2025RC10, is available for hospitals and similar locations).
The Fashionable Lifesaver
The 2025RC is totally compatible with other products and accessories in the Clipsal 2000 Series. Four colours are available as standard; White Electric, Soft Grey, Cream and Desert Sand. A range of other colours and finishes is also available. Please refer to the Trade Pricing Guide for any applicable surcharges.

Lifesaver Protection in a Portable Power Outlet
Compact and lightweight, Clipsal’s Lifesaver 485 Series Portable Power Outlets are great protection when working outdoors or when using an extension cord. The 485 Series offers two or four double pole switched socket outlets with either 10 or 15 amp. overload protection, all with 30mA sensitivity. (A 10mA model is available for use in hospitals.)
The Combined Residual Current Device/Miniature Circuit Breaker units of the 485 Series are mounted on the side of the housing and protected by a clear cover flap that reduces the risk of damage through knocks or dirt and dust intrusion. The body housing is of robust construction and features a stable base and a handy wrap-around for the unit’s 1.8 metre flexible cord. The outlets are cleverly positioned well above ground level, out of the way of dust, dirt and water.

Hints for electrical safety
- Although Australia has one of the safest power systems in the world, electricity should never be taken for granted, even when using safety switches.
- Test your Clipsal Safety Products on a monthly basis by operating their inbuilt test function.
- All fixed wiring electrical work must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor.
- Always switch off a power outlet before you plug in or unplug any power tool or appliance.
- Fuses and circuit breakers are not safety switches. They are designed to safeguard electrical circuits from overloading to protect property, not people.
- Never use a power tool or appliance that you know is faulty or has a frayed cord.
- Never try to fix a faulty power tool or appliance yourself, leave it to the experts.
- Be aware of overhead or underground power lines and never work near them.
- Common sense goes a long way towards electrical safety. Never forget to use it.
- If in doubt about any aspect of electricity or electrical safety, contact a licensed electrical contractor.

The trip current level of the Clipsal Lifesaver Range of products is 30 milliamps, or 30 thousandths of an ampere, a minuscule amount when you consider that many power tools and appliances use up to 10 ampere.
