2008 Clipsal 500 to complement Adelaide's events extravaganza

The 2008 Clipsal 500 Adelaide is to be held from February 21-24

tickets to the event go on sale to the public as from today (July 25, 2007).Announcing the date for the event, Clipsal 500 Adelaide Chief Executive Andrew Daniels said he was delighted the South Australian round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series had once again been selected to open the season.

‘Our position as round one is further confirmation that the Clipsal 500 Adelaide is the largest and most prestigious V8 Supercar event on the calendar that includes races throughout Australia and overseas in New Zealand and Bahrain’, Mr. Daniels added.
Commenting on the line-up of events in South Australia, Mr. Daniels said the date for the Clipsal 500 Adelaide was ‘a complex matter that included consideration of the world motor sport calendar for Formula 1, the Australian Football League season and other events being held in SA’.

‘By holding the 2008 Clipsal 500 Adelaide from February 21 - 24 we will have a fantastic events extravaganza in SA commencing with the Tour Down Under (January 20-27), followed by our V8 Supercar race, the Adelaide Fringe Festival (February 22 – March 15), the Adelaide Bank Festival of Arts (February 29 – March 16), WOMADelaide (March 7-9) and the Adelaide Cup (March 10), with the AFL season commencing on March 28’.

Mr. Daniels said that given the vast range of attractions that South Australia now boasted in the events field, it was ‘inevitable that there would be some overlap’. ‘South Australia is a sophisticated State and Adelaide is a large city by world standards that can cater for a variety of tastes and conduct a number of events at the same time or in close proximity’, he added.

Mr. Daniels said he was confident that by announcing the date for the 2008 Clipsal 500 Adelaide at this time, the accommodation and other allied industries would be able to plan and maximize the economic and other benefits that flowed to SA as a result of major events.

‘We will be celebrating 10 years of V8 Supercars at the 2008 Clipsal 500 Adelaide and have already embarked upon an ambitious program to make it even better and bigger yet again’, he said.

Spectacular support races, more on-circuit attractions and improved spectator facilities including more shade and a bigger concert line-up have already been planned, with details to be announced at the event’s launch to be held at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on 9 November.

This year’s (2007) Clipsal 500 Adelaide attracted 276,900 people over the four day event. Mr. Daniels said that advance grandstand and corporate ticket sales for the 2008 Clipsal 500 Adelaide were already at an all time high indicating next year’s event is on track to be another huge success.
